“Great location, degrading service and upkeep.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

We have been visiting the holiday inn since it was built. The location is great, right next on the main street and walking distance from restaurants and grocery store etc. The staff is mostly friendly and beds are comfortable, rooms are pretty spacious. That is where the good ends.
The bad. My concern is the beach, because that is where we spend most of the time. They never tend to the beach, it is always rocky and messy. There isn't much beach because of a weird 3 tier design of the lakeside area. The rooms are getting run down, they patch up a lot of the flaws with duct tape, not a contractor. Our rooms were cleaned around 4pm in the afternoon but they skipped us on 2 days out of 7. They don't have enough staff to get the rooms done in the morning. They do have a younger crowd on the weekends and some partying occurs. We return because of the location and ability to come with friends and family. 3 star hotel with 5 star prices.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while I was visiting friends in the area. It provided everything that I needed for a very comfortable stay. The room had a kitchenette for convenience of preparing meals if you choose. The hotel had underground parking which was very convenient. The windows in the room opened which is a "plus" for me. The view was exceptional, looking out onto Lake Osoyoos. I ate in both the dining room and the restaurant and found them both to be very good. I would certainly return to this hotel if I was in the area.

We stayed overnight in early August. The room was a decent size with some nice upgrades, the bathroom door didn't close hower along with other minor issues with the room, our 4 year old girl loved the bunk beds in the specially painted kids room with animals on the wall.

There was a lot of late night partying the day we were there, a fight upstairs with glass smashing at least three times, two 15ish people arguing in hallway, a fist fight on the floor above us, people yelling from the balcony down to the people on the beach. Not very restful at all.

The food was excellent however, Sol produces some great food, the best on our trip. There is a manditory 15% gratuity on the food however, I prefer to use a tip as a reward for good service, not forced to pay.

The beach is easy access if crowded, most chairs are taken early in morning with towels so bring your own. Has a private island with hamocks and volleyball and bbqs. Indoor pool is nice but they ran out of towels when we visited at 10 am.

Won't be returning as sleeping was a challenge.

Room Tip: Don't book during high season if you want a quiet stay

Just got back after spending 3 nights with my 2 young kids and gramma! Hotel is lakeside...perfect location. Check in went smooth, free parking in underground, free wifi, balcony overlooked the lake, mere seconds walk to beach. Room was clean, staff very nice to us. We had a 2 bed suite-lakeside..kitchette looks better in person than the pictures! Beds comfy, linen nice! Air conditioner cooled room just right! Alot of bbqs to use on beach...micr to BBQ all your meals! Indoor pool was just as nice...open from 7am to 10 pm! Will be back next summer!

Stayed there for one night end of July with my partner, last minute trip to Osoyoos/Oliver area to visit friends, hit the beaches, and do some wine touring. Check in was quick/smooth. Hotel was at capacity and we were lucky to have our requests met, away from the elevator and on a higher floor, possibly as I had registered as a priorty rewards member immediately after booking on expedia and then linked my reservation to my new rewards member. The hotel appears to be in two sections and has 4 floors, we were on the 3rd floor with a view of the street/lake; surprisingly it wasn't noisy, but the AC likely helped dim any noise.

Room itself was small but had everything we needed for one night stay, queen size bed, sofa, and kitchenette, no balcony though, but large window that could be opened for a view of the street/lake. No issues with hot water, which often is an issue in hotels in this class. Room was clean and somewhat updated. Bed was fairly comfortable; we had no complaints.

Hotel grounds are quite spacious, lots of chaise lounges, areas for sitting/sunbathing and plenty of room for larger families and groups. One section by the beach had a series of hammocks, could see returning with a large group and spend the evenings barbequing and drinking wine.

Location is ideal if you want to be able to walk to restaurants/beach/few wineries. I also felt safe running on my own around the area in the early morning which was an added bonus. We ate at the Wildfire Grill which was excellent, and found a small restaurant about 5 blocks down from the hotel called Ambrosia, super friendly service for a simple breakfast on the patio.

Overall would stay again if I didn't want to shell out for one of the 3 fancier resort hotels in the area. It's nothing fancy but comfortable and convenient location and with the beach steps from your room it was the perk. Plus free wifi and parking.

One note, management was unable to grant a late check-in, which we requested, but this is understandable given it is high season.

We stayed here in 1999 and because we were familiar with it we decided to stay here again. We requested a room with a lake view and got what we requested. Our room was on the fourth floor (which appeared to have been renovated compared to the other floors) and the balcony had a small table and two chairs. Because we were four people (two adults, two children) it would have been nice if there had been two more chairs outside (the indoor chairs were too large to move out on to the deck so our children had to sit on our cooler). The room was equipped with a small coffee maker, a microwave and a small fridge. The bathroom was tiny but that's common of most hotel rooms so although it would have been nice to have a little shelf to place your toiletries bag it seemed on par with other places we've stayed from that perspective.
The room was relatively spacious but there wasn't a table in the room which was inconvenient when eating in your room. There was a small counter in the corner that was meant to serve as a desk but other than that there was nothing we could sit around if we wanted to play a board game (or to eat) which was unfortunate because we had one day of bad weather when we spent more time than we normally would have in the hotel room.
The air conditioner was a little noisy but worked well and the room was clean, the staff were friendly, helpful and quick to respond to requests for a second luggage rack and a missing lightbulb in a lamp. We ordered pizza from the Sol restaurant one night and it came when promised and was piping hot when it arrived. We noticed that they had already tacked a 15% gratuity on the price of the pizza when we signed for it so that's something to be aware of if you order from there.
The fitness centre is small and has a single treadmill, an elliptical trainer and a stair master. There are a few free weights and a water dispenser and one TV. I would have liked to have seen some paper towels or wipes to wipe down equipment and there was no fan or air conditioning in the room so it was quite warm. Other than that it was perfectly fine.
What I really liked about staying here is the little spit of land at the back where the hammocks are strung. It was a lovely and somewhat private area to relax and soak in the sun. There are lots of water toys for the kids and boat rentals right next door. Kayaks and canoes are offered to guests for free as well as a 10 per cent discount on boat rentals.
Kids eat free at the shores restaurant next door as long as there are an equivalent number of adults ordering too but they have to order from the children's menu. You have to get the coupons from the front desk for every meal. We noticed that the restaurant routinely provided regular menus for the children and during one meal the waitress led us to believe that the kids could order from any menu and get the meal for free. It turns out they only give you the credit for the value of the kids meal on the children's menu against the meal that you order so that was somewhat of a "gotcha". Other than that our stay was pleasant and every staff member I encountered there was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

We booked 1 year in advance. We requested a lake view room, away from exit doors and stairways.
We were placed directly behind the elevator and directly below a huge kitchen fan.
We heard the elevator ever time it stopped on our floor. The kitchen fan was so large it actually shook the bed and sleeping area. It made us both naseous. The staff or management would not accomodate us, we were told the fan would be off by 10 pm and it was on until 11:40 pm. We were told the hotel was full.
Very unproffessional from Holiday Inn.
You would think when you travel 1400 miles and book 1 year in advance that your requests would be honored.
We will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't expect help from management here.
