It’s 30-60 minutes drive to downtown depending on traffic. I didn’t need to go downtown and had friends and relatives driving me around so I didn’t have any problem with the location.
We had a party of 7 in 3 rooms. My husband and I got a corner room which was wonderful; it had a big dining table as well as the living area with the coffee table and comfortable couch. The bedroom was a completely separate room which is not a given anymore these days! There were large windows in each of the dining living and bedroom areas so there was plenty of light. The rest of my family had non-corner rooms which meant no dining area and only windows in the bedroom. As a result they complained that the room was too dark. The décor was quite modern, everything was spotless, the beds pillows and linen were soft and comfortable. A proper hair dryer is available (not the ones attached to the wall) but to my surprise there was no toothbrush / toothpaste. Similarly, there’s a nespresso-style machine with coffee pods but no kettle for hot water or tea making!
A friend had booked the rooms for us, I think using his company’s corporate rate. As a result, there was only 1 breakfast voucher per room per day (i.e. 3 vouchers between 7 of us) for the whole duration of our stay. No matter how much we negotiated, and though we are a Hilton Honours member, they wouldn’t make an exception. So everyone else had to pay $10 for breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style and I was happy with the choices, plenty of cereals fruits yogurts pastries and bread. However if you want to eat hot food which is bacon sausages and eggs, you need to pay an additional $5 (on top of voucher or $10). We didn’t dine in the hotel apart from breakfast.
Only LAN internet was free, my husband planned ahead and brought his own wireless router, otherwise WIFI is only free in the lobby. There are a couple of desktop computers in the lobby connected to the internet as well. I was pleasantly surprised by the fitness centre. The equipment were aplenty and in good condition – weights, dumbbells, fitballs, mats, medicine balls, cardio equipment. The gym is not just a hotel gym but a proper gym where locals purchase memberships to. There were only a handful of hotel guests each day. The front desk staff were courteous in general, but when I needed to break up a $100 note, they were only willing to break 1 up for me. Check out time (12nn) was very generous too.
All in all I did enjoy my stay and would probably stay there again if I visited Toronto again.
Smoking rooms available upon request; ask for corner suites (if there's no added cost).
