Located in Lynn Valley Village near the library, Brown's Society House is a part of a broader chain. The menu is slightly odd -- "cowboy" and "cowgirl" salads with walnuts, dates, etc instead of a more traditional garden salad. There are burgers, rice bowls, and soft shell tacos and some pizza (but odd toppings, other than traditional Margherita). The menu takes some getting used to as things are in a familar genre but 'tweaked' into something not necessarily pleasantly surprising. It's not fresh and eccentric -- just slightly odd. Also, a bit expensive for what it is. Two fish tacos with a side caesar salad and a soda = $25 with tip.
The service is good but slow. I've been there with friends and solo -- each time it took an inordinate amount of time for a server to approach the table to ask about drinks. At night, it's dark and loud with sports on TVs everywhere. Not romantic. Not a sports bar. Again with the odd.
I'd revamp the menu and have more themed nights if it were my restaurant -- date night, hockey night, etc -- rather than mix it all up together. The genre-bending in terms of menu and ambiance doesn't work so well.
