“Best Restaurant in Greater Vancouver!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

La Cucina Restaurant is consistently the BEST restaurant in all of Vancouver. The food is always spectacular; my favourites are the Fiorentina 32oz steak for two and the rack of lamb (a specialty order)! Service is always friendly and extra attentive, while the ambiance that La Cucina provides makes you feel like you are in Venice. This restaurant beats all other Italian restaurants and is only a fraction of the price! A+ restaurant, I recommend La Cucina to all!

“Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Recently had dinner here for six for a special occasion. The service and the food was all over the map for a fairly expensive and established restaurant. We wanted a special dinner where we would enjoy a great meal, splurge and be looked after. We had to wave down the waitstaff to ask for things throughout our meal - ordering drinks when our other guests arrived, wine glasses for everyone, more bread-twice, more water, another bottle of wine, the bill.....we poured our own wine all evening. The food was all over as far as taste goes. The mussels were excellent and the salads were good too. The chanterelle mushroom appetizer was good but was crying out for bread to accompany it but after asking twice and waiting, the mushrooms were cold and had been mostly eaten anyway. The halibut cheeks were cooked nicely but they had a small smear of what appeared to be pesto on top but not flavourful or imaginative at all. The accompanying vegetables were plain without so much as butter or parsley and the large whole carrot lying there made me laugh. The pastas were fairly predictable - tender pasta, traditional. The service needs to be more polished - the wait staff seemed stressed and disorganized and did not "check in" enough to look after our table. There's not really much atmosphere at all. A little music would be nice. Loud guy doing some business transaction on his cell phone one table over - not the restaurant's fault but pretty rude.

It was okay but I don't know if I would return.

Had the bacon, mushroom fettuccini. It was amazing. Perfect balance of flavours. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was very charming.

“Good food, but cool welcome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We dropped in for a meal on the spur of the moment as this restaurant was near to our hotel, however, the fact that we did not have a reservation seemed to cool their welcome. We were shown to a table in the upstairs section, where one waiter was looking after the 5 occupied tables, with other tables free the whole time we were there.
The menu was extensive and the food was very good (an excellent gnocchi dish in particular), but priced at the high end of what was acceptable.
The single waiter was continually going up and down the flight of stairs to our upstairs enclave, which seemed to leave him a bit grumpy. On leaving the restaurant, we were able to see that the downstairs area was only over half full, but had several waiters/waitresses looking after it.
Overall what should have been a good experience, based on the food, was brought down to a disappointing one by the lack of welcome and lacklustre service.

“Cozy Italian dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Enjoyed a nice dinner with relatives at this cozy restaurant in North Vancouver. The food was good, the atmosphere was quiet and comfortable, and a nice change from the chain restaurants. The wait staff was attentive, without being overly-so, and we were able to visit and not rushed along. We had the chicken limon and salmon entrees, as well as salads and wonderful tiramusu.
I'd go back again, for sure.
