I liked the motel. The rooms are a little bit darker than usual due to the roofed corridor right in front of the windows. The rooms are not too small and there is enough free parking on the premises. The rate was reasonable for that location and quality standard.

Another thing I liked was the pool right in the middle, not too small to do some swimming. The location is pretty central, close to Park Royal, the Lions Gate Bridge and the HW.

The service at the reception was always very friendly and had all the information at hand I needed. There is a PC at the reception that you can use as well as WLAN in every room. If you are early enough in the morning you can get a copy of the larger newspaper at the front desk for free which is kinda nice to have.

Make sure that you book in advance since they are usually packed in summer. If the net says "nothing available" you should call directly. They often found a way.

  • Liked — location, service, pool, internet access
  • Disliked — no fridge in rooms, a/c sometimes loud

We did some research to find a suitable hotel for the four of us (myself, wife, and two adult daughters) in Vancouver. A number of websites seemed to suggest that the Best Western Capilano was a good enough place, so we booked it.

Upon arrival, we went to our room and noticed that the rug was quite stained and a tad smelly--not sure from what. We then noticed that the TV didn't want to work. I finally noticed that the Power button had been punched out, so I went to the front desk and brought it to their attention; I was told that they didn't have any replacement TVs, but DID have replacement rooms, so we were moved two doors down, which had the advantage of a cleaner and less smelly rug.

The room itself was OK, though a bit overpriced for what you got, I think. Other reviews noted that the walls were a bit thin and, sure enough, we could hear quite a bit of conversation from other guest next door.

Another problem was Internet availability. It is advertised as having Wi-Fi available in all rooms, but that's not exactly true, unless you count spotty service as availability. They are obviously using an older wireless broadcaster, so the signal didn't really get to our room. I had to settle for using the computer in the lobby, which I was limited to 15 minutes at a time (though I managed a bit more at one sitting since no one else was around at the time).

The place obviously needs a lot of work to get it back up to a good standard. It was fairly comfortable, but I really wouldn't want to go back on my next visit. The main advantage is that it is close to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain, the two big tourist traps in the Northern District of Vancouver and not all that far away from the main bridge to Stanley Park and Vancouver itself. The neighborhood itself it a bit run down and industrial and you have to walk a ways to find anything to eat worth paying for.

  • Liked — Location--to some attractions.
  • Disliked — Overall cleanliness and "feel".

Very clean, great location, wonderful staff! I was in West Van for business and had booked a room at the Travelodge which was a huge mistake. After about 20 mins of being at the Travelodge we decided to go to the Best Western and THANK GOODNESS they had a room left. I was there for 8 long days but it was nice knowing I had a clean and comfortable room to come back to. I definitely recommend it especially for long stays. Make sure to call and get the weekly rate the websites don't offer them. I am going back for another long business trip in March and I am definitely staying with them again!

Hotel had a bedroom, living room with pull out sofa bed (both queen beds). Property seems old but average. The restaurant on property was a little pricey. Location was good for access to Grouse mountain, the salmon hatchery and Capilano suspension bridge. Staff was helpful with directions
