Tamarind Hill has great food. It is not quite authentic Malaysian, but it is delicious.
I've lived in Singapore and travelled to Malaysia extensively. This food is definitely more Chinese Malaysian. The dishes that make this restaurant are the Kuay Teow and the Snapper Fish. The snapper in particular is amazing.
The Laksa is not good, but it is better than most places in Vancouver. It isn't spicy enough, like real Laksa in Singapore and Malaysia.
The Black Tiger Prawns have way too much sambal.
The other knock on the place (the main reason why I don't come too often), is it is way too expensive for what they offer. $18 for snapper (the cheapest fish you can buy in BC), is inexcusable, especially for the small portion. The prawns are similarly priced silly.
I come about once every four months, I'd come monthly if it was better priced. The restaurant does not have a great ambiance, and in particular in winter it is freezing in there, because the door is so close to the seating, and is constantly opening and closing.
