“The (Makes You) Mad Greek (or, Oh, Boy! Frozen Veggies!)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

We often stay in this part of Richmond, and we had previously eaten once at the Mad Greek, but never returned. Having forgotten why over the years, we opted to give it another go as a convenient choice after a long, late flight, and we quickly remembered why we'd never returned.

Nothing that we ordered, from calamari appetizer to dessert, was memorable in a good way. The lamb chops were overdone, and the chef had achieved a new lack of heights by cooking the potato in such a way that it brought out its starchy blandness. But the real insult was the frozen vegetables. Are you kidding me? At those prices, they can't do better than school-cafeteria-level food?

If you're in this area, and crave Greek food, do yourself a favor and drive to Kisamos in Steveston. For far less money, you'll get a mountain of tasty Greek food in a very cheerful environment by a sane Greek.

“'MAD'iocre food and service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I heard that this Greek restaurant was the best Greek in the lower mainland but I was sadly disappointed. Service was sub-par. Servers were not particularly friendly and they were very slow to refill our water. However they were not particularly terrible either. They did not offer a dessert menu or ask if the bill should be split. The food was one of the worst Greek food I have ever had. The potato tasted bland like it was boiled in water and was a little bit too hard, it did not taste like a Greek potato should. The salmon souvlaki was okay but the chicken souvlaki was very bland and lacked salt and Greek seasoning. It tasted like it was cooked on a flat top and not barbequed. The Greek salad and rice were fine. The lamb souvlaki was not sufficiently seasoned either.

“Great lamb chops!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

I had the occasion to try Mad Greek on a recent airport layover and was quite glad I did.
I ordered the "rack of lamb chops" and it was an excellent choice. A perfect portion of four lamb chops, accompanied by a roasted potato, steamed vegetables, and rice. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Service and atmosphere were quite nice with many paintings and random artifacts to add to the experience. I will definitely be back.

“Great Greek food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We went to this restaurant because it was close to the hotel we were staying at. Our table swelled from two to ten. Our waitress took it all in stride especially when most of the table told her that they were in a hurry to get back to a dinner meeting at the hotel. She did an amazing job of remembering orders of our ever expanding table. My husband and I both ordered souvlaki. My chicken was tender and flavourful and my husband's salmon was also delicious. We will be back!

“Friendly Greeks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Our friend, a resident of Richmond of 40 years, has been bringing us to this restaurant everytime we visit her. This year's visit predictably brought us to dinner at Mad Greek. We had grilled lamb and salmon which was exceptional for their freshness. As usual, the lady of the house and one of her two lovely daughters were on hand to personally serve us. Greek music, though taped, set the right atmosphere for this memorable evening.
