“Worst place to stay in the winter”

Sandman Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport

Nov 18, 2006

The hotel's clerks were awesome with a friendly smile every time! it was great to see a friendly face when coming in from the winter, The housekeepers were absolutely amazing at what they did as the rooms have always been perfectly clean and well maintained which is a very warm welcome every time we arrived back at our room

However if you plan on staying at the hotel during the winter time? it's not the best place as the heater barely heats the room and the water takes bout 10 seconds running before it heats up at all. I would suggest you ask for another blanket as you will be needing it..

I was rather disappointed to see that there was only a rock hard treadmill and a bike in their gym facilities plus no ventilation inside the gym which meant lots of hot air coming from the whirlpool towards the gym

So overall it is a fine place for summertime as there is a/c inside the room however don't expect to enjoy it nearly as much during the winter ..

“Quite the experience”

We had quite an interesting experience at the Sandman. We checked in, and the staff was quite friendly. That's where the pleasant part ends and the laughably bad part begins.

Although the hotel was far from full, they gave us the room directly next to/behind the elevator. This was not good for several reasons. First, we heard the elevator all night, which was a special treat. Second, the room was smaller than any hotel room in which I'd ever stayed, even cheap motels. There was barely room for the furniture. Third, the air conditioner was situated between the large wardrobe (no closet in room) and the armchair. We turned the A/C on before we left for dinner, and when we returned to a very warm room, but the tiny corner in which the air conditioner could reach next to the wardrobe and armchair was freezing cold. If only we could have slept there.

The hotel was apparently fully aware of the ridiculously small room size, because there was a little note on the table saying that they like to think of their room as "cozy" not "small." Tripping over too much furniture packed into a tiny space is not what I'd call cozy.

Also, the bed was really hard, making the night all the more wonderful.

Although I realize this is not the fault of the hotel, the hotel is extremely difficult to get to from downtown Vancouver. There needs to be better access to the hotel from the adjacent local roads. We passed the hotel at least 6 times, but could not enter the grounds because the parking lot does not connect directly with most of the roads.

There was one other good thing- it is very convenient to the airport. But then again, shouldn't a hotel that calls itself an "airport hotel" be convenient to the airport?

“Great Business Stay”

I have been staying here for years. For the price, the value is great. The staff is excellent and the Moxies rest/Bar is a good lace to unwind. I have stayed in much fancier surroundings, but for a place to lay your hat after a long day, the value is great.

“Just OK”

This Hotel is very plain, the beds were hard as card board. The door was a self closing door that did not work, so I accedently left it open to the hallway for hours. The vending machines in the hallway were SO loud.
The front desk staff were very professional, the hotel was clean. Not all the rooms offer the free cookie and chips. Great location once you figure out how to get to the hotel, you have to drive arount the entire hotel and enter into the Travel Lodge prking lot to get to the hotel

This was a good hotel for the price to travel around Vancouver area. Our room was good size and very clean. Also left a bag of potato chips, cookies and bottled water (free) in the room each morning. It is about 15 minutes south of Vancouver which suited us as we were going south when we left but it was a drive into the city or Stanley Park. I believe it would be a good spot to stay if you want to be near the airport. The restaurant, Moxie's Classic, was very good and reasonably priced considering it's in a hotel. There are restaurants near by for breakfast, i.e. Tim Horton's across the street. Free parking.
