“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

This is an excellent hotel, and the free airport shuttle service was on time, fast, and reliable. It had very early morning departures scheduled to get you to the airport on time. The complimentary breakfast included a lot of food options. There is not much in the surrounding neighborhood within walking distance, but the rooms are nice, and very clean.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights before picking up a car and driving north. We wanted a hotel close to the airport that provided breakfast. The hotel far exceeded our expectations. The rooms were clean, bedlinen lovely and bathroom well stocked. Staff were helpfel and shuttle ran on time to and from airport. The breakfast was sensational, with full buffet, so much food, and fresh fruit to finish. Would recommend this hotel to anyone as a stopover hotel and would stay there again anytime! More like a 5 star than a budget airport hotel.

My family and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Vancouver Airport in June 2011. I chose this hotel because we were arriving late at night from the airport, staying a few days before going on a cruise to Alaska from Vancouver's harbor.

After getting a rental car at the airport, we headed to our hotel. It was only a few miles (kilometers in Canada) from the airport, so it was good that we did not have to drive late at night in a city that was new to us. The hotel had a drive up check-in parking, but no apparent parking lot. After checking in, we found out that the parking lot is in the building itself. So we had to drive around to the rear of the hotel where there was a card reader to let you into 1 of 2 garage doors. You could park up or park down. We chose down. This put us in a small parking deck that had cars to the left and a wall and doors to the right. I am glad that we had a car and not a truck or van. The car was hard enough to park in there. (We tried the other one the next day. Same layout.)

When we took the elevator to our floor (the top floor), we could not operate the elevator unless we swiped our room card on the elevator control panel. This was odd! Once we got to our floor, we found that there are only rooms on one side of the building. The other side is just windows looking out to the freeway.

Then we found that we could not get into our room. So I had to go back downstairs (Thank God the elevator worked with the key card!!!) and get the key cards reprogrammed. Then we could get in. But by that time, my kids were grumpy, after having to fly almost 6 hours straight from Chicago and being late at night with a 3 hour time zone change from home (so it was really late for us).

The room itself was clean and comfortable, with 2 queen beds, desk, flat screen TV, wireless internet, and of course a bathroom. The view from the room was good, as the area is surrounded by beautiful mountains.

The included breakfast was good, but did not have enough tables for us to sit together. They have bar-like seating against the front windows. So we sat there, side-by-side, to eat breakfast. The hotel was the first that we stayed at, that had the new Holiday Inn Express pancake making machine - their answer to other hotels' waffle makers. It worked fine, but you had better have a plate at the end of the machine to catch the pancakes as they come out of the small conveyor belt!

This hotel has no swimming pool, and as I stated is very narrow. We could definitely see how narrow the building was, from the freeway, when we returned the next day from a trip to North Vancouver. The hotel is definitely in town, with some restaurants nearby, but not a whole lot right there. However, this is a suburb of Vancouver, so not as crowded as in the city itself.

Overall, I would recommend staying at this hotel if you do not mind no swimming pool, key card operated elevator, and can park a car in a small amount of space. There is another Holiday Inn Express not too far from this one, that appears to be bigger and does have a pool. However, that hotel cost more. Otherwise we would have booked it. Since we were only staying a few nights, it was not worth the extra cost. So we stayed at this one.

By the way, if you are a Costco member, there is one right across the street!

Room Tip: All the rooms are opposite of the freeway, so no noise noticed from that.

A solid HIX hotel near the Vancouver International Airport. Great for mulitple night stays as well. Hotel is clean with good sized rooms and the always excellent Express Start breakfast offered by most HIX hotels. Good value when you consider underground parking and/or airport shuttle is included in the price. Close to major highways and decent restaurants near the hotel. The only drawback is a lack of pool/fitness room. I have stayed here on multiple occasions and would not hesitate to stay again. Excellent airport hotel!

Room was nice but space was a bit tight for my wife, son and I. Breakfast in the hotel was convenient.

So, my brother booked one hotel and my husband got directions to another. We showed up here at 10 am, after being up all night on the train, with all our luggage thinking we had a reservation. We had to carry our stuff on a hot, muggy morning from the sky train which is 4 long blocks away! The front desk staff found us rooms for the night, let us get into one right away to drop off our luggage and take showers. They also phoned the other hotel and canceled our reservation at the other holiday Inn...no charge. They were incredibly nice especially since I was yelling at my brother. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, the breakfast was very good. The front desk staff was phenomenal. The airport shuttle was wonderful the next morning.

We stayed in this hotel early in August when heading out on an Alaskan Cruise. Overall this is a nice hotel with good front staff, good breakfast and comfortable beds. The one complaint I have is that when we arrived in our room the toilet had what looked like a lump of ashes sitting in the bowl. We called down to the desk and they sent someone up right away to make sure there was not some mechanical fault. They could find nothing wrong with it but the residue from whatever it was (still think it was a large container of ashes dumped in) was there our whole stay even after three people using it. The rest of the room was very clean so I am not sure what that was about. The park and cruise option is great. The hotel took care of getting us down to the cruise dock and they even took care of the luggage, getting it right into the customs terminal - nothing for us to worry about. If it hadn't been for the toilet issue, I would have rated this hotel much higher.
