“Slow service, excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Was the closest Chinese restaurant to the Westin, looked it up on Tripadvisor and found the reviews to be very accurate. We experienced the normal slow service but the food was excellent. We waited more than 15 minutes to order then waited more than 40 minutes for our first items to arrive. The general manager came over to say hi just before we left and while he made not of what we told him I doubt little will be done.

“Huge menu, good service, lovely meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We were staying at the nearby Westin Hotel and ventured out to find a Chinese restaurant for our last meal in Vancouver. We had started to walk into downtown Richmond, and came across the Rainflower almost straightaway, and decided to give it a try.

We knew we had made a good choice when we were escorted to our table as we were the only non-Chinese customers in there, and the menu made a lovely change from all the Anglicised dishes we are used to in the UK - there were many dishes which wouldnt be found anywhere other than a truly authentic Chinese restaurant!

Unfortunately - we forgot the cardinal rule of dining in North America - beware the huge portions - and we ate until we were stuffed, but still didn't make a huge impression on the amount of food which was brought to us - and the doggie bagged prawns were enjoyed cold the next morning!

It wasnt cheap, but given the quality and quantity of food we got, and the great service, we'd go back to Rainflower in a heartbeat.

“Good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

The restaurant is always super busy, and parking is pretty hard to find as well. They have a huge menu, which is full of yummy things. I would recommend going with a person who's familiar with Chinese dishes, so they can help you try a variety of things. Service was pretty quick, even with the busy restaurant, but the servers as friendly as one would hope.

“Divine durian puffs and imaginative dinner choices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

In a Chinese culinary destination such as Richmond, B.C., a restaurant really has to have a few tricks up its sleeve to stand out. Rainflower's dim sum menu has the most divine melt-in-your-mouth durian puffs, filled with fresh durian. The pepper and salt fried tofu is also better than most--crispy on the outside and soft inside with lots of chilis and garlic. The sauteed rice rolls is also tastier than many of its competitors.

For dinner, they are willing to prepare off-menu a much more varied vegetarian selection. While most non-vegetarian places offer only tofu, mushrooms, vegetables and the occasional eggplant in the same brown sauce, Rainflower can put together a beautiful winter melon soup (requires pre-ordering), a coconut milk sauced taro and pumpkin hot pot, a nam-yu lotus root saute, an updated sweet and sour taro balls. (ask for Raymond--he knows best how to satisfy foodie vegetarians).

“Very So-So”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Pretentious, unfriendly and not nearly as good as they would like to think they are. The quality and quantity of the dishes didn't even come close to meriting the extremely high prices the restaurant charged.

Won't be back.
