“Delicious food and wine in a very comfortable setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

Before and after dinner we sat in the lounge enjoying drinks from the honesty bar and chatting in front of a huge fire. We tried the taster menu for dinner which we can definitely recommend. The sommelier was excellent and chose a different wine to accompany each course all of which were delicious and well matched. All the staff were so helpful from the moment I got in touch with them. We'll definitely be going back.

“Inspired dining in a truly picturesque setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

The first thing that we noticed about Askham hall was the breathtaking views across the extensive, yet homely grounds. The building itself where the restaurant area is situated is a grand, historic structure and as soon as we arrived we just couldn’t wait to get started.

The sheer quality and presentation of the food was beyond anything that I had experienced in central London and what really amazed me was the grounded, unpretentious nature of the general atmosphere and all of the staff we encountered. I would highly recommend opting for the taster menu (which we went for) to avoid the disappointment of missing out on any of the first class dishes on offer. From succulent beef to rich flavoursome fish, all of the food was simply outstanding. I had heard great things about Askham Hall from colleagues who originate from the Penrith area but the whole experience far exceeded my already high expectations.
I would thoroughly recommend Ashkam Hall to anyone who appreciates food of the highest quality, in a relaxed yet stunning setting. There’s no doubt about it that we shall be returning again. See you all soon!

“Fine dining at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

We booked a table at the restaurant as it reopened for the 2014 season. The dinner was one of the best we have had. The hall is beautiful with a quirky, unique ambience which follows through into the dining experience. No stuffiness or snobbery here - just excellent food, pleasant service and well chosen wines. The menu only offers two options and as we both chose a different option for each course we can say that nothing disappointed. Hopefully this means that the menu will change often and we can look forward to trying something different next time we visit - which we most certainly shall. Thoroughly deserves to be number one in Cumbria. Just a point to note - and it is not a criticism just an observation - the hall is very old so remember to wear a jumper.

“Fabulous setting for a fine meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

My wife and I came here for a short weekend break and were absolutely taken away with the Hall itself and were really impressed with the quality of the restaurant. Set inside a historic building, it certainly exceeded our expectations and if anything more than matches some of the fine dining establishments in central London which we're used to. It was great to see the menu full of meat and produce which were reared from their own estate, the vension itself was especially delightful. The presentation was wonderful and the staff were all very friendly. Would certainly recommend this to couples, families or even groups as I noticed they had an amazing separate dining room which looked very unique.
