“Cabin in the mountains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2014

Whether you love or hate this place will depend on your values. If you want 5-star luxury you should go somewhere else. If on the other hand you are looking for the tranquility of nature you'll love this place. Yes the place is rustic because it is older but some reviewers forget to mention that you have a spacious free-standing chalet something impossible to find in newer resorts unless you pay big bucks. You have no neighbors on the other side of your walls or above you which makes it much quieter. Out front there is a huge deck. One a recent trip we had a barbecue for 11 people on the deck with plenty of room to spare. The views are amazing. Because you are not in town, you are surrounded by mountains unhampered by the busyness of civilization. We have been here at least 6 times and I never tire of the beauty. It is not uncommon to see wildlife wandering around the grounds. Just outside the entrance to the resort is the parking lot for a number of hiking trails so it is easy to set off for a walk. Once we saw a grizzly bear on one of our hikes--he took a look at us and sauntered back into the trees.
You can immerse yourself in nature and yet Canmore with most amenities is a short drive away so you can have the best of both worlds. But it's important to assess your values to decide whether this is the place for you.

We were headed to a Banff wedding and thought we'd spend the week. Spent the first night at Hidden Valley in Banff, which was nice, but super expensive and very cramped.

Arrived here and despite older furnishings and ongoing renovations, it's a hidden gem!

We had an enormous cabin all to ourselves. Parking right outside our door, a huge boot room for our mountain bikes, our own private deck facing the majestic Rocky Mountains, and a spacious kitchen. We felt like we were borrowing a friend's mountain chalet.

This resort ea hammered by last year's flood, and they're still repairing some roads and upgrading while they're at it, but overall, we were delighted.

The rooms are older, but honestly, we found the furnishings old when staying at the Banff Springs a few years ago.

There are newer places, but a private spacious cabin in the Rockies? No way. It was awesome. We'll be back, for sure.

We stayed here with our extended family from August 8/14 to August 15/14. We had 4 chalets in total and had asked to be placed close together for convenience sake as the four families ate supper together every evening. The accomodations were very satisfactory and clean. The chalets are showing signs of age and wear but management is working at replacing some of the items.
The views are fantastic and you are literally just steps from hiking trails into the woods and along mountain streams. For a relaxing time on the side of the mountain, this place is great. We will be back next year for sure!!

We stayed July 20th & 21st. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The accomodation was very clean and the staff very helpful. There were me my husband and our 17 year old daughter. We had only been there 10mins when we saw a grizzly bear, within a few hours we had seen Deer and Elk. It was fabulous just sat watching the wildlife. We hopefully will return.

This is a time share resort that has fallen into bankruptcy twice since 1989 and appears that it may be there again. Our unit has no functioning screen on the walkout deck therefore, we can't open the door and let fresh mountain air in because the bugs (mostly mosquitoes) are numerous.
There is a thermostat on the wall but there have been on A/C units installed because, I'm told by the desk clerk, there is no money to do so. The afternoons have been in the 80's and no A/C, the fan on doesn't even work and I'm not sure there is even a heater for winter weather.
The towels are not absorbent, are very thin and unraveling around the edges. Also, we were told there would be a towel exchange on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It didn't happen on Monday as we were told and had to go get towels. They had NO wash clothes and offered hand towels.
They did pick up the dirty towels and leave fresh on Wednesday as requested on Tuesday night.
The staff are GREAT! They try their best and work very well given what they have to work with. I actually feel sorry for them having to face guest.
Oh, the grass looks as if it hasn't been touched this year. However today, Friday, 27 June the weekend that people begin to come in for the HUGE Rodeo in Calgary, the lawn service has been here all day. The lawn is full of Dandelions and there is no real landscaping. The playground has some playground equipment but the material is all wood which could cause splinters for the children using it.
This place has potential but needs an infusion of LOTS of money. If you don't mind a place a litter better than a tent, you'll be OK.
BTW, I have pics that I'll upload later.

Everything about this place is wrong. The customer service isn't very good, management is near to nothing and the resort is also very low grade. I don't mind rustic and retro. But old, warn down and dirty is not my cup of tea and that is all this place is. Don't go here expecting much.

The location is spectacular the cabins lovely, guest services terrible. My family booked two cabins for a week about two months in advance. We are five adults and five kids two of whom are toddlers. A week before we were to arrive we were notified that due to a problem with water damage in some of the cabins we would be moved to a different facility for the last three days/two nights of our stay. When we arrived at check in we advised the front desk that we would appreciate it if they could find a way of allowing us to stay the entire week particularly since a move with five children would be quite cumbersome.
The evening prior to the day we were to move we were told that the board of directors of the corporation that runs the resort was meeting there and we had to move. We were told that we had to check out by 10:30 am. and check in at the hotel we were moving to was 4:30pm. No effort was made by the resort staff to assist with the move. Gratefully the staff at the hotel we were being moved to The Copperstone Resort were much more accommodating and made a room available before noon so that the toddlers in the group could nap.
To add insult to injury in the chaos of making the move we left behind pieces to a 1000 piece puzzle we had been working on. I called immediately upon discovering the pieces were missing, and was told housekeeping had not been to that unit and they would make sure the pieces would be at the front desk for pick up. When my son went to pick them up the person at the front desk knew nothing about it and the puzzle pieces were likely thrown out by housekeeping.
It is truly a shame that such a lovely place should treat its guests so poorly. We will certainly not be back nor would we recommend any of friends stay there.

Room Tip: The Copperstone Resort provides much better service
