“A home away from home - but in the mountains!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Have stayed here as part of a timeshare transfer - and a very nice stay. The chalets are certainly separate, so you feel like you're in your own home, and even though they're getting a little dated, they're clean, and cozy, and have a fireplace AND a jacuzzi tub so you get the best of mountain accommodations PLUS the extra comforts of home!

Tip - the higher up the mountain, the better the views (and they make the slightly longer walk down to the pool or hot tub so worth it!

It was a great location. Just minutes from Canmore and up the side of a small hill. It is more of a remote location which I enjoyed as there was barely any traffic, could rarely hear the highway and you are able to sit on your deck with a cup of coffee and be surrounded by the mountains and the outdoors.

They are older chalets/cabins but i would trade the luxury of the condos in Canmore for the peace and quiet plus the amazing views.

Only downside was the pool was unavailable on the Sunday and Monday after we went skiing. but otherwise I enjoyed it.

Room Tip: We had three chalets and they were all very similar besides minor furnishing and all had stunning vi...

It's was an unexpected surprise. I had looked at the place on the Internet and it was a roof over our heads but once at the location the view is stunning . The chalets are the old v shape but roomy. The one we were in had alarmed picture windows and it was breath taking to see those mountains. We had a loft so the children gathered there and another bedroom on the main floor.
Large entry area , fireplace and full kitchen with some stock. 2 bathroom one with shower other with jacuzzi tub. The place has a pool (cool) and hot tubs in and out. It is not near anything but the stars light up the night. This is a great family or group place those who like the quiet off the highway would also enjoy it. We had some problems with the stove but the staff were helpful at getting it resolved. 10-15 mins from Canmore and 25-30 from banff 1 hour or lake Louise. I would stay here again rural and peaceful it was. In the summer I think it would be great they large decks and you would pay for a view like this in banff or Canmore . Housekeeping may be a challenge but it beat my house

Room Tip: Pick the chalets higher for the view. Tv is not what most of the kids watch its limited so bring th...

The location is great. The furnishings and appliances were dated but normally this would have been okay if they were clean. The stovetop and oven has tinfoil to catch spills but had obviously been there a long time. We were able to clean the stovetop some which shows that housekeeping hadn't even tried. When we opened the hide-a-bed there lots of remnants of chips, popcorn etc from previous visitors snacks - obvious that housekeeping didn't even look. We also noted that under furniture and the drawers could have used a good vacuum. The great view we had was spoiled by windows soiled by dirt and some sort of white liquid - again something that housekeeping should have seen. We cleaned the windows ourselves. We had no sheets for the murphy bed or hide-a-bed but were able to get some from the front desk on the second day. The unit had a significant tilt which was a bit worrisome.
We had lots of toilet paper, paper towels and dish cleaning supplies. Would have been nice to have some general purpose cleaner etc...
The games roon had potential but the front desk didn't have change for the arcade games. We played ping-pong with paddles that we falling apart and pool with old cues and no chalk. Fooseball was fun but the air hockey table was out of order. The indoor hot tub was out of order during our stay and the pool was closed on the only day we tried to use it.
The beds were clean and comfortable and the front desk staff tried their best to be helpful with the shortcomings we noted but had little to work with it seems. We had a good family holiday and may give the place a second chance because we are so close by. I wouldn't recommend it to friends or family yet though. I am giving the place an average rating because the poor housekeeping may have been an uncommon thing. If we go again and experience the same housekeeping effort then I would rate this place as poor. All in all it makes me wonder if this is one of those places that is in financial difficulty.

My husband and I just spent 5 days in cabin 2! Reading the reviews before I was not sure what to expect when we arrived.

The cabins for us were perfect; sure the carpets are older and the floors creak in spots to us that didn't matter. The master bedroom was very spacious and a good sized master bath. The beds were very comfortable and had nice linens. The cabin had a full operating kitchen was great, we didn't have to go out to eat just cooked our own meals!

Overall it was a great get away for us. We will definitely be booking another weekend!!

The setting is fantastic and our first impression was that we would enjoy future visits in one of these 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom chalet units which are a quick drive from the highway going into Canmore, and the location is "pristine". On a positive note, the carpet was new, the beds were comfortable. However the unit still needed a lot of maintenance and renovation The kitchen cabinet was missing some pieces of the countertop - unsightly and not a healthy arrangement; the spacious fridge had no light in it, and yes, the clock on the stove (if you care) still does not work. The stove is old and could use replacing. The dishes had been put away "crusty" and unclean from the dishwasher and had to be rewashed by hand as they they forgot to put dishwasher cubes in the unit. We had to soak some pots with dishwasher detergent to get the burned material removed and back in usable condition- not a good use of holiday time. However, it was the non-functional gas fireplace that was really upsetting, and it took till mid morning the next day to get it working. The maintenance man, who was very helpful advised that the pilot lights blow out "frequently" in the units. There was ample hot water and nice bathroom renovations with large tubs and good showers. i would not call this a resort and more renovations and improvements are required, with better quality control regarding need for repairs and level of housekeeping.

Room Tip: Chalets on the upper level of the resort are good for wild life viewing; Chalets lower down are clos...

My large family stayed at the Banff gate mountain resort over our November break. The location is EXCELLENT. just 12 ish minutes outside Canmore, about 20-22 minutes outside of Banff. I was pleasently surprised by the cottages, Every group has their own little cabin style cottage with a gas fireplace. When we entered we were happy to see a murphy bed in the enterance and there was 2 rooms with queen size beds and a double size sofa bed. NICE for space to sleep, not so nice Mattresses, and MAKE SURE YOU BRING BEDDING. There is only bedding provided for the 2 beds in the bedrooms NOT for the sofa or murphy.
I would say the most frusterating thing I found was when we went into the bathroom and there was NO spare roll and when we contacted the front desk we were told we could get some there, FOR $3 PER ROLL!!!! SERIOUSLY?!?! paper towel was the same. seriously one roll of each?! but anyways.
We spent A LOT of time at the pool, the kids LOVED it. There are 2 hot tubs, one indoors and one out, the indoor jets didn't work, the outside worked well. There is also a nice sauna, and a "fitness" room, however, half the equipment didn't work there.
Long and short the location was great, the resort was less than desirable. We went with a time share week and honestly wondered where the maintainence money we pay every year was being used. To sum up, easy to enjoy a week here simply due to the proximenty to other things but be prepared to PAY FOR EVERYTHING.

Room Tip: we were in cabin 12, 1-12 have way more space around them than the higher numbers, closer to the poo...
