“Like a family owned cabin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

My husband and I stayed at this resort with another couple the week of June 22-29th. I found it to be very similiar to a friends cabin that had been in their family for 50 years. It is very basic but satisfactory for our purposes. It does have a nice big porch but the misquitos were so bad we couldn't stay out too late in the evening. The view was great of the mountains and it was very quiet. There is a very nice hiking trail close by.

If you are looking for a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day this is worthwhile. If you are looking for luxury or a lot of night time entertainment this is not the place for you.

Check in was easy and it looked like all the sports facilities - tennis court, etc were in good shape - we did not use them since we were gone

We were in cabin 38 and the only problem we had was the street light on the cabin that lit the back road made it very bright at night.

“We liked it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

The cabin had two bedrooms, and the master bedroom featured a king sized bed and a connecting bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. That upstairs bathroom had a bathtub but no shower.
The cabin was a bit old, but we were only inconvenienced by that every once in a while. The oven clock didn't work correctly, and I couldn't figure out how to set the time again. It was only a few minutes off when we first arrived, but then it was about 45 minutes off by the end of our week. This caused us to be late a few times.
The Internet connection only worked in the main lodge. So, you'll need to bring your device there. I believe there was also a computer available for use.
There are areas to hike near the resort, so you'll save money if you don't want to pay for another day to enter Banff.
Housekeeping isn't an option while you stay here. They offer the opportunity to change your linens once a week, Tuesday. But, you have to take your linens to the lodge to make the exchange. Also, at the end of your stay, you must take your trash to the dumpsters. I didn't mind some of the other rustic elements of the resort, but that one did bother me.
People can see right into the cabin at night. There are large windows at the top of the cabin, which results in excellent morning mountain views, but if you're walking upstairs at night people will see right in if you leave the lights on up there.

Room Tip: I think the views are better higher up.

“Beautiful location - out dated cabins”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012 via mobile

The cabin is a nice layout with plenty of space for four people. However the furniture is old and in need of replacing. Several things around our cabin didn't work including the toaster, fireplace, blinds, dresser and the two hottubs at the lodge.

The mattresses were hard and there were no blinds in the bedroom so the sun shone in early each morning and made it hard to sleep past 7. The couches were old and looked dirty.

We were there at a certain time of year where none of the outdoor activities advertised on the site were running.

There were things floating in the pool and hot tub and both weren't the right temperature. The games room is so old and the only two pool cues are bent and unusable.

The location is beautiful and only 10 minutes to Canmore and 30 min to Banff.
It is really inexpensive to be able to cook your own meals and share a cabin with friends or family.

“Incredibly Wonderful!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

My wife & I have been to this resort for about 3, one week stays and we love it!!!!!! It is a great resort for those who want to get away from the concrete junlges and crowds of nearby Canmore and Banff. When staying at this place, you really feel like your right in the mountains. The Chalets, although not necesarily the most modernly decorated, are great. Lots of room... comfy, cousy and a fully stocked kitchen with a large deck and BBQ. The pool is nice and the indoor/outdoor hottubs are great. The lodge has lots of nice places to relax as well as a large pool/acarade area, all for free. Free use of internet in the lodge and wireless available in chalets. Of our 3 stays there, we have had no issues. The units have been clean and the staff have been very friendly and helpful. This place is our favorite place to stay in the Canaidan Rockies and we will definately be back... hopefully lots more! All the people we have sent there have also given it high ratings.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Banff Gate is rustic and has wonderful chalets to rent. The rooms were clean the
dishes, fridge, stove & cupboards as well were clean. Furniture very run down
so an upgrade would be great. Fireplace brings wonderful ambiance and the view
of the forest in front of us was very peaceful. If however you are put in one of the
chalets in the center of the chalet grouping, your view is limited to the cabins lined in front of you and the cabins in back. Zilch privacy or ambiance of sitting out on a deck in
the evening or early morning for you. I wouldn't go if we couldn't get a chalet at
the front, back or sides(these border the forest) of the grouping. Not everyone cares about this, yet for my family the views of nature is what brings us here.
Also we like to read in the late evening so better lighting would be great!!!

Room Tip: We were put in the center of the grouping of chalets and told the front desk we wanted to be moved...
