Our second visit to Biggin Hall Hotel was equally as memorable and enjoyable as our first. This is a delightful place populated by visitors who want to walk in the local area as well as others, like ourselves, who wanted to relax, be looked after and to explore the local area in a less energetic way. Complimentary Pimms pre-dinner and a half carafe of house wine aided the digestion and complimented the varied menu. The food is of very good quality, the service is efficient with an emphasis on informality and friendliness. The only downside was being unable to avoid overhearing nearby diners talking in detail about operations and deaths of people known to them! It was a kind of audio version of 'Emergency Ward 10'. In the room there was plenty of offerings both in choice and quantity of refreshment so one was not limited to the usual maximum two cups of something! Breakfast was self-help and there was a choice of cereals, juices, hot food and toast - plenty of it.
The restaurant looks out on to a lawned area on which geese, (hence the title), and hens roam freely. Given some of the creatures have been there many years I suspect they are not there to supplement the larder! This is a lovely hotel and another one that will be on our list for returning to at some future time. One note of caution though - osome rooms in the main part of the hotel have beds with foot boards. For most people this will not be a problem however at 6' 3" it can be a problem for me, so best to enquire in advance if this might be an issue.
