“Tiny rooms dreadful service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Reading some other reviews I think we must have stayed at a different hotel our experience was not good. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 adults to stay for 7 nights. It was tiny and no en suite. Four adults sharing a bathroom became a logistical exercise. We asked if we could pay for an upgrade but were told we were in one of the biggest units We could have had another 1 bed unit but there were none available for the whole length of our stay and it would have been at full price. There were no drawers in the bedrooms just wardrobe hanging space with only 6 hangers in each. I like to fully unpack when I go away not live out of a suitcase. The main bedroom (which was about a square foot bigger than the other bedroom) had bedside lamps but the cord wouldn't reach the power point the alternative was to use another power point but then you couldn't use the door We asked for a power box, but there wasn't one in the hotel and my daughters boyfriend paid $2 to borrow one from the convenience store next door to the hotel.
We had one heater which didn't work and took a day to replace. The breakfast that was included consisted of a muffin, muesli bar, fruit drink and yoghurt, perfectly acceptable, but the flavours never changed in 7 days. We often didn't have the breakfast but it was provided everyday resulting in us accumulating 20 raisin muffins etc.
The staff were as helpful as they could be, but didn't seem to care. I think it must be par for the course when a member of staff recommends leaving feedback on tripadvisor. No member of staff looked up when anyone entered the lobby even if they were newly arrived.
On a positive note the hotel is ideally located for sightseeing and tours with some nice coffee shops and restaurants nearby. If you are a couple travelling alone or only staying a couple of nights then it is an ideal place.
The only other negative review I have had was for the Oaks on Collins in Melbourne, so I get the message and won't be staying at any Oaks group hotel again.

The staff were friendly and the location was great. Our problems came from staying during very hot weather with none of the rooms having air conditioning. 4.5 star rating and no air conditioning really surprised me.

The room smelt really bad like a smokers room which was not pleasant. We realised that it was because of smokers using belconies around us and their smoke had been coming in through the open windows.

With no air conditioning, you couldnt really shut the windows so either cooked in a stuffy room or put up with constant cigarette smoke. It was disgusting. Also having the windows and doors open meant a lot of roudy noise from the street keeps you awake (even 20 floors up). First time I've ever stayed in a 4.5 star anything and not had air conditioning. So cannot recommend for a summer stay.

The door does not have a security or privacy night latch. A member of staff came straight in to check something and I just stood there in shock. They left again without even realising I was there. I stacked the table and chair against the door after that!

There were no bedside lamps, light switches or anything. You have to get out of bed to turn on and off the main light. The brochure pictures show lamps.

There was no clock in the room or clock radio next to any of the beds. There was no way to set an alarm or listen to the radio.

We would not stay again as the lack of air conditioning meant it smelt bad and was noisy. In this price bracket there are many other options that would be better in hot weather.

The room also lacked heating so I'd suggest packing your own heater in winter.

If the rooms had cooling and you didn't need to leave the windows and doors open, the experience during hot weather would be totally different.

Dear Jean J,

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed the apartment and all that it offers as compared to a traditional hotel that offer smaller rooms at higher prices. As with anything there are certain disadvantages, we have great rooms for great prices but have no air con in our complex (please note that we do not advertise that we do). What we do offer are in room fans and heaters.

We do the best we can in assuring our guests have a great stay with all the extras at no additional charge, such as outdoor lap pool and gym facilities.

Take care and I hope you choose us next time when you are in Auckland.

Stayed here for 1 night, New Years Eve 2012/13. We had a 2 bedroom apartment. Great size bedrooms, one had a balcony. Nice size lounge and kitchen had everything. Very clean and tidy.
Located amongst great bars, retaurants, everything is walking distance and so close to Britomart.
The pool was nice, we swam in afternoon and was luke warm, but in morning it would be great as the sun would be directly on pool. Staff are great and helpful.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are probably the best.

after heaving read some of the reviews we were very positif surpised by this accommodation. we arrived already round 12am and the reception told us that their policy is - not to give rooms before 2pm. however, i could store our lugage in their lugageroom or i could park the car already in their basement parking for a reasonable charge. the room was spacious. it had even a dishwasher, a washer and a dryer. everything looked has it was shortly refreshed. the separate bedroom is large enough and the bathroom is perfect. the city is just around the corner and the viaduct is 10 minutes walk. would we stay here again? probably yes!

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We stayed twice during our recent NZ holiday. Close to some lovely city areas of Auckland. Some great restaurants nearby. Also some adult establishments which were not so good for families, but the patrons were respectful of our children so we can't complain it's just something to be aware of.

Perfect place and dont worry about those negative reviews. I was very skeptical and in fact worried with this booking but in turned out perfect for our family 3 nights stay just last week. The location is superb. We get 1/2 harbour views in unit "G" apartment above 20th floor and the apartment is sparking clean and comes with daily housekeeping! Dish washer, full kitchen utensils, laundry facilities etc came handy. Only gripe is toilet is a bit narrow and bathtub drainage extremely slow.
Front desk staff are part-timer students but we have no issues with them as they were quite helpful.
Not a problem for family stay (we have 2 teen boys) though some reviewers grump about seedy location. There is an adult bar across the street but they confined within and no sight of sleeze at all for kids at all. There are 2 supermarkets on Queenstreet which is just barely a street away as well as convenience store just directly below the apartment.
Clean, well equipped and superb location ideal for family vacation!

Based on TripAdvisor reviews I stayed in a 21st floor apartment with Harbour views in February for 3 nights. The views were as expected. The property was a disapointment as it was a mix of hotel and permanent accommodations. The fire alarm went off due to a curry cook up. The reception was chaotic with no semblance of customer service. All run by Indian staff that seemed uncapable of dealing at a hospitality level. Would not stay there again. Yes, the street is a worry at night due to the strip club opposite. It is a pretty sleazy area at night and not recommended for tourists or sole travellers, IMHO.
