“The Perfect Peace and Plenty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2009

The Peace and Plenty is a wonderful place to stay. Although, and unfortunately, we only stayed one night we were made to feel welcome and given great advice on our short stay in Auckland. Judy was the perfect hostess and we love Stanley the dog. Breakfast was delicious too. We highly recommend a stay and hope we will be back soon.

It has been six years since we originally stayed at Peace and Plenty, a lovely B & B perfectly located in Devonport. We thought it was perfect six years ago but the lovely hostess and owner, Judy, has redecorated every room and added a lovely breakfast area. The rooms are charming and the breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. The breakfast table setting alone is probably one of the prettiest I have seen in all my travels. Bravo, Judy, I hope it isn't another six years until we visit again.

Judy, the owner, personnally welcomed us to Peace & Plenty, showed us to our room and was on hand whenever we wanted to answer any questions and provide us with local knowledge. Eg. places to visit in Davenport & Auckland; how best to get to Auckland and places to eat.
Our room was excellant and my husband particularly enjoyed drinking tea out of proper china cups, whilst I also enjoyed sipping a comlimentary glass of sherry on our balcony watching the sun set!
Breakfast was a wonderful experience too with freshly squeezed orange juice and a menu to choose from including bacon, eggs or pancakes. After 3 weeks of travelling around NZ it was a lovely place to relax before the long flight home. I would also recommend it at the start of a journey after a long haul flight, but would recommend it really to anyone! It was a really wonderful experience. Roger, Judy's driver can be booked for tours of Davenport and/or to collect/take to airport - the positives are plentiful and I can't fault it at all!

This is certainly a gorgeous house in a great location. We probably just picked the wrong room (Devonport), but when we arrived there was a strong damp smell. I think it was due to the fact that
whoever had the room before us had not used the fan in the very small (think cupboard-sized) and windowless bathroom. Judy had warned us when booking that the bathroom was small, but we were still surprised at how small! However, after leaving the fan on and the bedroom window open, the smell cleared. The room itself was charming and the breakfast was excellent, but be prepared to be sociable - there was only one table set for 2. Without a doubt a lovely place to stay, but after 5 weeks travelling in NZ and staying at a variety of accommodation, we felt the Peace and Plenty was definitely overpriced.

We have traveled extensively and enjoy interesting B & B's. The Peace and Plenty Inn far exceded our expectations. From the inital contact with Judity via e-mail til our departure. she was so very helpful and accomodating. Our room was beautifully decorated and very cozy. The gourmet breakfast was elegently served and so delicious...the pastries were fresh out of the oven. The stay at the Peace and Plenty was the top of our list of accomdations for our 7 week trip. We would both highly recommend it.

During our 28 day stay in New Zealand, we stayed at the Peace and Plenty four different times. We began our vacation with two days here, ended it with two days here, and enjoyed two other days in-between different destinations. It has truly been our "home away from home" during our stay and it couldn't have been better. Judy, the owner and innkeeper, is a warm, engaging woman who has the energy and enthusiasm needed to run this inn.

We stayed in four different rooms, each decorated beautifully with the needs of the guest always in mind. All the rooms were bright and lovely during the day with gorgeous shades and draperies offering total blackout in the evening. Lavender sachets and chocolates greeted us at every arrival and the china tea and coffee service in each room provided us the opportunity to relax in our rooms. Linens are the highest quality and the pressed pillow cases and shams make you feel very special indeed!

Breakfast is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. The dining room is a brightly lit open plan with the kitchen. Freshly arranged flowers on each table are always a welcome to your morning. Beautiful blue and white china settings with white tablecloths and napkins are the back drop for homemade muesli, cereal, orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit and a pastry - and that's just the starter. Then you choose from a menu of pancakes or waffle with fresh fruit or eggs cooked to order with toast and bacon. Leaving hungry is not an option!

The garden is not to be missed and is Judy's love and passion. Bird watchers would be most happy sitting quietly on the back deck! Stanley, the resident yellow lab and host of Peace and Plenty, will be happy to accompany you on a walk through the garden or to the beach - if you can get him out of his chair in the den! He is a love and gave us the "puppy love" we were missing from our own dog back home!

This is at the top of our list of B&Bs that we've been fortunate to stay in over the past two decades. If you or anyone you know is planning to visit Auckland or Devonport, you'll be missing out if you don't stay here at the Peace and Plenty!

Judy our host was discreet but available if required and she helped us a great deal with regard to transport arrangements, As for anything else all reasonable requests were attended to in a friendly efficient and quick manner.
Our room was light and airy with a comfortable bed and the cleanliness was excellent. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the food very good.
The place had "character and charm" and we felt very "at home"
Devonport has an almost village atmosphere and with Auckland only 15 mins away by ferry it was an ideal location for us .
