“romantic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Stand at the farthest end of the fort where it meets the Arabian sea, watch the setting sun, feel the breeze on your face and tame your silk dopatta as it tries to follow the crazy waves hitting those huge rocks in front of you, and watch how the sandpipers play with it. This quite and serene beach alongside the fort add special romance to it. The fort is huge in its area though only the boundaries survive, rest all is destroyed. The tender grass flowers that covers almost all the fort-soil will definitely nod to your thoughts and will lead you to wonder even more....what happened to this fort? who lived here? who came to invade? when was it destroyed? and you will find no answer as there is absolutely no information board or a museum to tell you the history! Thank ASI for maintaining this piece of grand archeological evidence and urge them to make it more educational when you leave the gate.

“The best fort in God's Own Country!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

This fort is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India; one of the best preserved forts in India from the 16th century.

The fort is a 30-40 minutes drive from the Kasaragod Town (Old Press Club Junction, to be precise) and has multiple routes; The direct route from Kasaragod town is very scenic compared to the partial SH57/NH1 access (Kasaragod-Kanhangad Rd).

The fort has been renovated recently and there are significant improvements over the past few years. Over all, the place is worth a visit.

Just a few kilometers from Kasargod you get the Bekal fort, The fort is in the best of location, facing the sea. it has been well looked after by the archaeological dept. the fort has been captured in many films, among then is Roja. Climb upto the last of the fort and get a fantastic view of the sea.Food is available outside the fort .Kasargod is on the Mumbai Kochi highway, and lots of train pass thro it, The nearest airport is Mangalore, which is 1 hours drive.
In North kerala bekal is the one and main attraction .
