5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2010

We celebrated out Ruby Wedding Anniversary with family and friends in the restaurant and had a wonderful evening - staff were very helpful and made our overnight stay very enjoyable.

This hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment - especially the public areas. We had a 'deluxe' room that had been 'refurbished'. Goodness knows what the 'unrefurbished' rooms were like. Yes, it obviously had been refurbished recently, but it was poorly and cheaply done. The bathroom was plastic and the room seemed clean, but I wouldn't like to dig too deep. It is however the public areas that are desperately crying for attention. The place is straight from the 1950s/60s and even some of the staff look like they have been working there since then too. It has obviously undergone some renovations over the years, but this has resulted in a very higgldy-piggldy style and needs to be completely gutted. The breakfast was a low quality fry up. However, service was really good, pleasant and helpful. Would I stay there again? No.

Booked for 2 nights checked out after 1. had a refurbished room - new wall paper and a lick of paint but nothing else. very tired hotel, needs a complete refurbishment. limited breakfast choice, no continental chioce. The hotel is OK if you are a contractor looking for a cheap hotel. I checked out and went to the Premier inn down the road.

Very very noisy from both traffic outside and from rooms next door and above.
Room was said to be a 're-furb' - ok it was - but was so badly done - bad colour scheme/decor and a plastic bathroom.
No storage apart from a strange hanging'tea/coffee' arangement.
No basics such as hair drier, room service menu, mirror, local info, extra pillows/bedding.
Rubbish from building work left outside of window on what could have been a lovely balcony.
The bathroom had no extraxtor and was v basic.
No internet provision
Carpet and decor in main building was chipped/frayed/faded and even the main reception was not clear - staffed by staff who were yawning, combing their hair!
Somebody needs to get a grip of this place! Hotel Inspector this is one for you!

Stayed 24 days then returned for a further 17 days.
No problems whatsoever.
Rooms and food were excellent.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Will use same hotel whenever back in Middlesbrough again.

Been to this hotel twice, bit old in public areas and unrefurbished rooms are basic, but newly refurbished room was very nice with good shower, large comfortable bed and big LCD tv. Breakfast was very good and would stay again
