“I'm undecided..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Nunnington Hall is, like many NT houses one bequeathed to the NT by the previous owner and aims to give an insight into their lives so the rooms are laid out as they would have been.

I have visited numerous NT properties and enjoyed Nunnington Hall but it wasn't a place I would rush back to however the miniature house exhibition and the painting exhibition was good. Worth a visit if an NT member

“Christmas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

I have just looked at my last review of Nunnington Hall (April 2013), and virtually everything I said then holds good today (Sat 23rd Nov)

My wife and I decided to call en-route to a visit to relatives in nearby Helmsley.

The reason for our drop off at Nunnington was two-fold: (1) Because we wanted to see their 1920’s Christmas displays and (2) we like the tea room!

One really can get into the Christmas Spirit from now until the week before Christmas (check opening times, though, only on weekends!) Free Sherry/Mulled wine, and Sugared Almonds are on offer, as well as the wonderful Christmas decorations in every room, and the more than helpful staff/volunteers! I particularly like the way the rooms are not roped off like many places.

Oh, and Santa’s there, too, of course!

And we enjoyed the sandwiches/bottomless tea, as well!

Yes, Nunnington Hall can be highly recommended! (Again)

“Christmas at Nunnington, 1920's style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

For the 2nd year running, Nunnington Hall has put on a special 1920's Christmas exhibition - open weekends from the end of November until Christmas.
We went last year and loved it, and have just returned from this year's trip.
The Hall is beautifully decorated as it would have looked in 1920 - lots of greenery from the grounds, log fires blazing, giant Christmas trees with old fashioned baubles, candles etc.
As you walk round you are greeted with sherry and sugared almonds.
The restaurant has lots of Christmas style sandwiches and lunches, and you can buy Christmas cards etc from the small shop.
It was a beautiful day and we walked in the grounds too.
A lovely idea, managed really well by the Hall. Will be back next year!

“Dark oak panelling different from anywhere else”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

This house is so different from any other with its Tudor rooms and later extensions. Very knowledgeable room guides who were very happy to answer any questions. Fantastic Joe Cornish art exhibition and some lovely wicker horses in the gardens. Also have to mention the apple and pumpkin soup which was lovely

We went because it was National Trust and were not disappointed. On arrival we treated to a sample of the pumpkin soup and Apple Cake, dflicious
