“Excellent value, location and clean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A group of us stayed here on a Christmas do, we had 3 twin rooms and 1 quad all of which had bunkbeds that were comfortable. All the rooms were extremely clean and had en-suites. Its in a good location only 15mins walk from the station and you can get a drink or food on-site. Overall highly recommended!

We booked a 6 bed bunk room for 5 of us at quite short notice for £79. The room was fresh, clean and came with an en suite shower and loo which was brilliant!

The hostel was in a good location with free parking. The staff were fantastic and we enjoyed the late night bar! The breakfast in the morning was spot on for a fiver!

We were seriously impressed!

Thanks for this review. You're right that we have some great value rooms for winter stays in York. These are seasonal room prices, but breakfast is always £4.99 for a hot and cold buffet breakfast with hot drinks included. Brilliant.

I only wanted somewhere to stay and didn't need any frills so this fitted the bill fine. Can still climb onto top bunk which helps. Showers not very spacious but hot enough. Convenient; Bar and cafe. B&B or self catering kitchen, parking space and 20 mins walkinto the city centre.

The hostel is in a good location - about a 20 minute walk along the river from the centre of York.

The staff are very friendly and efficient - even in the face of some of the very rude parents of young children that were the majority of the guests when we visited.

The hostel is safe, the room was comfortable and very clean. The shower was hot and the water pressure excellent.

The food was good value for money, and the breakfast was good, too - despite one horrendously rude staff member we encountered one morning. But this did not ruin our experience.

Wi-Fi is free for YHA members, but, frankly, it should be free for everyone, in my opinion.

We visited in half term break. As a result there were many families with young children, so there was no "party" atmosphere - which was great with us.

I would definitely return when in York

This is a lovely place and although the one disabled accessible room had been taken the other room in the courtyard was accessible even with the step.
The room was clean and the beds very comfortable.
All other amenities good - bar, breakfast and evening meals/snacks but the menu was a bit limited. But there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance, and the city center of York within walking distance.
had free wi-fi in public seated areas.
Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: If possible ask for a courtyard room

Thanks for your review. WIFI is now free for everyone staying, and please do feel free to ask for a courtyard room, some of which have funky mezzanines, with two singles upstairs and a bunk downstairs, plus your own ensuite toilet and shower. Popular in school holidays with families, great for groups of friends throughout the year.

This was my first visit to a Youth Hostel. I was most impressed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean but simple. Since it is a Youth Hostel you have to bring your own towel, soap and shampoo, but that was not a problem. The hostel is convenient for the centre of York and road and rail links to the surrounding area. I recommend this YHA property and I would stay there again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2014

A good hostel, clean with good facilities. En suite bathroom very annoying, after two showers the floor was very wet and did not drain making it impossible to use the bathroom unless barefooted. It was still very damp the next morning. Also the breakfast was disappointing as the food was almost cold and I couldn't finish it before it became too cold to eat. Serving it on hot plates would help. There seemed to be plates in a warmer but these were not used to serve breakfast. This is enough to put me off returning for another stay. However, the staff were all lovely and very helpful in all aspects of our stay.
