My husband and I not being particular horse lovers, took our 8 year old daughter who has a love of donkies. On arrival noted ample free parking with allocated blue badge parking close to entrance. On entering was welcomed by a friendly staff member who provided information for our visit, regarding directions and facilities. First impressions were just how clean, tidy and immaculate everywhere looked. We arrived by chance just as a group of 8 donkies were being moved from one paddock to another. Whilst directed and positioned safely behind a gate we were able to see the pack happily trotting past, followed by a group of Shetland ponies which I found absolutely endearing. The route around the sanctuary was provided by concrete and completely wheelchair friendly and the need for wellies on wetter muddied days would not necessarily be required. Being a horse novice with absolutely no knowledge, to the untrained eye it looked like horsey heaven, with immaculately clean purposely provided paddocks and enclosures. With every horse, pony and donkie came the information of their life story and in many instances before and after photographs of neglect to present day day health. This information wad provided through notice boards positioned at each paddock, all of which we read with genuine interest.
The sanctury as well housed a obstacle course styled play area which kept our daughter amused for ages. There is a cafe on site where on this occasion we did not sample the delights as were going on for lunch elsewhere, though this area with seating inside and out again appeared to welcoming and immaculate. A well stocked shop for gifts, including preserves, soft toys, stationary and so much more. THE WHOLE OF THIS VISIT IS FREE !!!!!! With donations accepted with appreciatication if you so wish. We completly enjoyed our 3 hour visit and took advantage of adopting the Oxhill Donkies which included all eight for one whole year for the price of £12.50, we look forward to an invitation to their combined birthday party in August. Can't wait to visit again.....
Nearly forgot twice daily tour walks around the sanctuary are provided by staff to provide further information on the donkies, horses, ponies which can be taken advantage of at set times.... and one more thing, if you visit please say hello to snuffles for us, your find him !!!!
