“Excellent place to stay in Tahoe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

We lucked out! I found The Landing Resort & Spa by reading reviews on tripadvisor. I am so glad I did. We stayed in a lake view room and it was amazing. Everything about the room was perfect, everything is clean and new and it is gorgeous! The fireplace was great and I got the best sleep while staying there. There are lots of extra nice features like the heated floors, spa tub and steam shower in the bathroom and the decor is perfect for a Tahoe retreat! The hotel is quiet, there is a place to eat but the menu wasn't our taste so we didn't eat there. The spa looked amazing, the gym was great and the hot tub proved popular in the snow!
Exceptional customer service is an understatement. The staff is quick to assist with anything and the free shuttle was a great bonus for us! I hope the hotel stays this amazing so we can stay again!

My wife and I stayed three nights midweek in late January. We arrived in South Lake Tahoe by bus to Harvey's Casino Hotel where the hotel's shuttle picked us up for the short drive to The Landing. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous throughout our stay. Upon entering the lobby, the shuttle driver introduced us by name to the guest services person for check in. The check in process was like meeting with a concierge. We were offered a glass of champagne or water. We were offered an free upgrade from a superior forest view to a third floor superior lakefront view. We were escorted to the room where we were shown the various amenities in the room. The staff brought us some ice and called a facilities guy to make sure the heated bathroom floors were working properly. Quite a nice start to our stay!

I have to rave about the room. The furnishings and décor were refreshing. The view from the small balcony was awesome. The bathroom amenities alone made us feel giddy. We usually stay in chain hotels so we were pleasantly surprised at all the published highlights of the room. OK, maybe the 55-inch HDTV was over the top for the size of the room, but it was clear The Landing wanted to establish itself as a top notch property.

The Landing has an onsite restaurant open for breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast on a couple of mornings. The gourmet style menu was fine and the service attentive. We did not partake in dinner.

The Landing has an excellent location right on the lakefront. There is a fenced beach/marina area on the other side of the street. We were told that the Landing has a property interest in this waterfront area, so access is provided to guests in the summer. It looks like this beach has public access as well so I'm not sure of the advantage of being a hotel guest. Otherwise, the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the casino hotels and a 10-15 minute walk to Heavenly Village, all slightly uphill from the lake. The hotel's shuttle bus is on call at all times to pick up guests usually at designated bus stops in the area.

In terms of wish list items, the room lacked a microwave. However, when I mentioned this to housekeeping, she allowed to use the microwave in the staff room (great customer service!). Also the hotel charges a $25 per night resort fee to cover valet parking, shuttle, pool & spa, etc. The resort fee was not mentioned anywhere on the website or the confirmation. It would have nice to know about the fee upfront rather than seeing it for the first time on the checkout invoice.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to those seeking a higher quality lodging experience with high marks for customer service, amenities, and location.

I could call it one of our best experiences ever. Very nice staff. Great rooms and I think best location in South Lake Tahoe. We wanted to be there for only one night but after the first night, we loved it so much and decided to stay one more night. The Landing is our spot from here on and will stay there many many times. Thanks you for such a great service.

Service is perfectly courteous and attentive without feeling pushy, which compliments the chic-yet-homey elegance of the decor. I had a two queen view room on the second floor; the view of the lake was partially obscured by trees yet it was no less scenic. It's all the creature comforts inside the room that makes this a nice experience, though--like cabin living but with all the extras of a resort hotel. Fireplace, fridge, upscale furnishings, comfortable beds, large bathroom with heated marble tile floor, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, heated toilet seat... You won't want to leave your room but if you do, the complimentary shuttle service takes you anywhere. I don't often gush, but I'm seriously impressed. Out of all my travels and hotel stays, the only other place I've stayed that's made such an impression on me was The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. I really hope to see this new boutique resort succeed so I can stay here every time I return to Tahoe.

This resort is absolutely wonderful!!!! The staff is very friendly and helpful and are more than willing to give great recommendations. The room is beautiful and spacious. There are so many extras in the room that we weren't even expecting: heated bathroom floors, steam shower, heated towel rack in the bathroom and even a heated toilet seat. We stayed in a room with amazing lake views. Loved waking up to the beautiful lake with snow capped mountains in the background. We took the shuttle almost everywhere we went. It was very prompt when picking us up 100% of the time. We were having such a great time we even extended our stay because we didn't wan to leave. I can't say enough good things about this resort. Stay here if you want to have an amazing experience!!!!!!

The Landing advertises itself as "5-star," but the refrain we heard all too frequently when things went wrong was "We're still working the kinks out." Overall, while the hotel has potential, it also has a long way to go before it can justify the prices it charges.
The rooms were quite nice, although not the most luxurious I have stayed in. We especially liked the heated floors in the bathroom. The fitness room was also quite decent, although the shower there did not work (one of the kinks, they said)..
There were some drawbacks that need to be fixed. The wine tasting was nice enough, but then the waitress at the bar kept pressuring us to buy an overpriced (even for a restaurant) bottle of wine. None of the wines we tried were good enough to justify a purchase. They put the wrong phone number on their room keys, which sounds like a small thing, except that they tell you call that number to reach the hotel shuttle when you need to be picked up. When you call that number, you hear a recording pitching you a cruise. And then there was the $25 per day resort fee that we were told about at checkout when we got our bill, but that was not clearly disclosed at booking.
