“Great Place, just what we needed!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We came to Tahoe to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. I came across the Alder Inn website and fell in love with the place, reserved the room (talked to Spence) and knew this was the hotel for us. When we arrived our room was ready early and exceeded ALL expectations. Spence gave us great suggestions for dinner...(Freshies was our favorite). It was far enough away from Heavenly to be peaceful and very quite, but close enough to walk/bike everywhere. The hot tub and warm pool was great after a day of hiking or biking. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. We will definitely stay again when we go back to Tahoe. Thanks for everything!

We stayed at the Alder Inn for 2 nights during our California road trip last September. The hotel was perfect. We had a warm welcome along with some useful tips on finding out way around. The room was beautifully designed and very comfortable. We wished we were staying longer. While in Lake Tahoe we went to Emerald bay which was a lovely drive. We also did lots of walking around the Lake. The weather was mixed as it was so cold in the morning but it turned out lovely later in the day. We would love to return to Lake Tahoe and if we do The Alder Inn will be our first choice of hotel.

My new wife and I were looking for a place to stay and decided to give them a call based on their reviews.

Spence is awesome! Thanks again buddy...

So when I call I let Spence know that's we are on our honeymoon. He suggest the Love and Peace room. Clean, quiet, and peacefull.

They even have bikes you can borrow. Overall we will be staying here from now on when we stay in tahoe.

Owners are very friendly, the room was well furnished and it was obvious that there were little things added to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. I've never seen so many travel sized items left for guests before. I normally nit-pick about exercise equipment, but this is Lake Tahoe so there is no reason to be inside! Great location all year round.

We stayed at the Alder inn for 2 nights in June 2013. The new owner (Spence) was very friendly and gave us some tips for restaurants (with discount vouchers) and things to do in the area. They had just recently bought the motel from the previous owners and you can tell they are working hard to make it a nice place to stay. Look, it's an older motel and some things are a little worn, but they are busy repairing and replacing the worn items and everything that's important (like the room furnishings and interior spaces) are all fine.

On my request they reserved the Zebra room for me (since I am from Africa) and that was a nice surprise for my wife. I believe all the rooms are decorated differently which makes a nice change from the beige-box type rooms you'll find at most chain-motels. The room was comfortable, bed and bedding too. The heated pool and hot tub was definitely a winner!

The inn is located within easy walking distance to the Ski Run Marina (where the Tahoe Queen departs from), which saves you from driving and parking at the marina if you do want to take a cruise on the paddle-steamer. At least 4 great restaurants are within 4 blocks of the inn so also within easy walking distance. I recommend the Red Hut for breakfast and Blue Angel cafe for lunch and dinner. It's located off the main drag so it;s not as noisy as most of the other motels in the area.

Overall, we were very comfortable at the Alder Inn and would definitely stay here again if we visit South Lake Tahoe in the future. Recommended!

Stayed 3 nights. Warm, friendly owners. After our first night, a top floor room became available - which we wanted - and they moved all our stuff for us while we were out for day. Both rooms had comfortable beds and were clean. Each room is uniquely appointed. Both our rooms suited us. The hotel is nicely located near to most of what you want access to in South Lake Tahoe but far enough away from the main road to be peaceful. There are restaurants to walk to. The hotel has a pool, a hot tub, and a ping pong table. The guests are an eclectic group.

The owners are currently renovating and refurbishing the hotel. The workers don't get in the way and any noise from the updating is minimal and at acceptable times.

Wifi in the rooms was very strong.

My guess is that the Alder Inn will only get better. We intend to give it another visit.

We stayed at the Alder over Memorial Day weekend in 2013. The room was good and it had clearly been updated recently excluding the bathroom and entry doors. We stayed in a room on the second floor near the office.
The new owners had just purchased the Inn earlier in the month and had moved from Florida with a 2 year old and an infant so they have a busy personal life but still have great plans to continue the updates for the Inn focusing on the exterior. The new owners were very nice and helpful. The Inn is within walking distance of the beach with restaurants near the beach and also on Ski Run Blvd.
If my wife and I are in the area again we would definitely stay here again.
