What a unique place to stay in South Lake Tahoe. This is a older motel that has been refurbished into a one-of-a-kind inn. Each room is unique and has been furnished with items you might expect to find at your home, not generic motel stuff. If you are traveling with another couple try to get rooms with a connecting door, you will appreciate each others decor. This is a sexy place to stay. Close to restaurants and the lake, you can walk.

This inn is the vest place to stay in tahoe hands down!! Its only few blocks from the beach. I come here to stay while I ski. Highly recommended. From here it's a great scenic site while you walk to the beach or go skiing in the mountains. Their rooms are spacious and comfortable their facility is fantastic they have a great view of the area.

My husband and I stayed here for 10 nights in September and we couldn't be happier with our decision to do so. I booked the room through the hotel and was given a cozy queen size room with access to an outside upper deck area - and we took advantage of the deck. After a day of hiking or kayaking - we brought wine/snacks etc out and relaxed on the deck. In the morning we even had breakfast on the deck. It was a wonderful extension to our room. The room itself was cozy and the bed was definitely one of the most comfortable I've slept in for a hotel. We enjoyed the Keurig coffeemaker and all the personal amenities left in our room. I enjoyed looking at some of the unoccopuied rooms to see how they were decorated also. Chad and Lanie thought of everything when decorating and renovating. As many of the other reviewers mentioned - Chad and Lanie know the area and will steer you in the right direction, whether it be for sightseeing/dining or hiking. Take advantage of their knowledge. If we ever go back to Lake Tahoe - we know where we will be staying again. Thank you both for a wonderful experience!

Stay here! My wife and I recently enjoyed two nights at the Alder Inn. It is the number 1 rated motel/inn in S. Lake Tahoe for a number of reasons. First, it's in a great location, close to the lake, shopping, restaurants, casinos, etc. Second, it's adorably decorated. Yeah, it's an older motel, but it's been lovingly updated by its owners who have taken great pains to decorate each room differently and add touches you just don't see in other inns. Third, Chad and Layni are outgoing, friendly and strive to make your stay a pleasant one. (Plus their kids are adorable, too!) My advice, ignore what "I was duped" wrote. If you want "cookie cutter" then stay at a chain motel and enjoy "same old, same old." If you appreciate extra little touches you don't get anywhere else, stay here.
