“Extremely Tough, Extremely Rewarding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Hands down the best trail in the area. If you are in decent shape and love hikes with beautiful vistas, it is worth the time it takes to go. The 2-3 hour hike (one-way) can be broken into three sections: the first is up to Cathedral Lake and is a decent workout but is also the flattest section. The second part is extremely difficult, stopping every so often to catch your breath. The last third is on the backside of Mt Tallac and gives you beautiful views of Desolation Wilderness. You get to the top and then you realize why you put yourself through it. There was no snow in mid season this year, but last year we ran in to a patch blocking the trail in early July. But then again, last year was a crazy awesome year for snow. Stay safe!
