“A nice, little old fashioned room in the woods”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

The Apex Inn is a throwback to the good ol' days when you'd pack the kids in the station wagon and head out to Lake Tahoe for a good ol' time. It remains the same in style and is clean and well kept up. We had a king size bed which was typically comfortable and the room was clean. A regular TV was there as was a fridge. There was a sample of Tom's Natural Deodorant in a package so that was a nice extra.

I'll stay there again to save money and have a nice time.

Room Tip: Had an upstairs room which was quiet (there's only 4 of them).

stayed for a couple of weeks at this place recently. room was spotless, fridge, micro, clean bedding and towels etc. quite setting near many restaurants, a grocery store and the mountains. the onsite managers / owners could not have been nicer even inviting guests to a Sunday BBQ on property.

I highly recommend the Apex Inn to everyone

Mike

Stay away from this Hotel. The Manager's wife double charged me for my room. I called and was told the credit card machine malfunctioned. She told me it would be taken care of. Called again 5 days later and no credit to my account. She told they didn't no contact the Bank till Wednesday and it was not her fault it was the machine, "Baloney". These people are crooks. I still have not received my refund......

Room Tip: Rooms are way to small for the price. Everything is packed in there so there is no room to move arou...

This motel is on Rt 50 not far from 89, more convenient than downtown South Lake/Stateline for the Kirkwood crowd. It takes about 45 minutes to drive from here to Kirkwood, depending on the weather and traffic. We made it in less than 40 with clear roads and little traffic at 8am on a Saturday. Also, there is shopping (Raley's, Starbuck's, CVS, restaurants & fast food) at the fork, about 1 mile down the road. Note for the S Lake Tahoe/Stateline crowd, it's several miles out of town, so not quite as convenient as locations downtown if you're headed to Heavenly, tho Pioneer Trail is close by, so it's not far either. Given how clean and inexpensive it is relative to other places, I'd still recommend it. For Kirkwood, it's an obvious choice.

The motel is easy to find, large sign. The 2 bedroom room we stayed in looked recently renovated and painted, with mostly newer fixtures, newer carpet, a microwave and small fridge. The room was an old style wall heater, but it worked well. It was quiet and comfortable.

Overall, while this is a typical simple 2-3 star motel layout with small rooms, we found it clean, comfortable and convenient, and the management was a younger couple that were polite (they happened to have free snacks in the lobby when I checked in). There were a few small touches that made it stand out, like free Tom's of Maine deodorant samples in the bathroom, and a Vit C drink sample packet with the coffee maker. Internet connection is free (and not "per device" like nearby national chains). It is a very good value, with a competitive weekend rate compared with other places nearby, so we're giving this place a very good rating and recommending it especially to the Kirkwood crowd.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room on the end, unit 112, farthest from the road.

I discovered this cozy gem of an inn while dining at my favorite pizza restaurant across the street. Ideal, quiet location if you want a bit of distance from the buzz of casinos and ski resort action (just 10 minute drive away), but still have excellent restaurants and shopping plaza (raley's, starbucks) within walking distance. I stayed in a super clean, warm, and fresh-smelling room with all the basic amenities and small comforts of home (incuding soft linens/blankets, mini frig and microwave, coffeemaker, free wifi), as well as parking right outside my front door. The innkeepers were warm and friendly, accessible and graciously accommodating to myself and my friends throughout our extended stay. I come annually to south lake tahoe in autumn to photograph the wildlife and fall scenery in this neck of the woods, and the apex inn proved itself to be my newfound ideal spot for a delightful weeklong getaway!

I stayed at the Apex Inn for a few days for the Fall colors in South Lake Tahoe. You can't bet the location.. well placed to get up early for dawn over Emerald Bay, or a short drive down to Hope Valley for the Fall colors at their best. It is extremely inexpensive for what you get.. I had a nice clean room with two beds, fridge, microwave, table and chairs, kitchen supplies and coffee maker. very quiet as it is a bit back off the road. Also - next door to the best Italian restaurant in the area and great pizza place across the street. After a long day of driving around, being able to walk to dinner is a real plus. Very nice family from Western India run it and keep it quite clean and cozy. Highly recommend the Apex Inn!

Room Tip: ask for one of the rooms in the back.

This is our second time staying here. Totally love our room. Same room as last time. A love the location and everything about this room. . We love the upstairs rooms because you get a mini fridge, microwave and coffee put in your room. We will be back again next month.
