“Wonderful hotel in South Lake Tahoe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

My husband and I spent a week at the Alpenrose. It is the third year in a row we have stayed there. Hannah, the owner, is a wonderful host. The hotel is located to everything you could ask for: mountains, restaurants, casinos, parks, and the lake. Every room we have stayed in over the years is wonderfully decorated with an "at home feel" and everything is very, very clean. I would recommend a stay at the Alpenrose to everyone visiting Lake Tahoe.

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor.

We stayed two nights here Oct 7 & 8, which was off season so it was not busy. The rooms are very nice having been recently upgraded. Our room was directly above the office and as others have mentioned you can hear through the floors & walls. Not really a deal breaker for us since it was so slow, but could be for other in a busier time? I had not remembered seeing that their was a small continiental breakfast included, and it was not mentioned to me at check in --- I only became aware of it as I was checking out -- too bad?? The price is certainly a good point, for a city that can be quite expensive. I think I would choose another area of Lake Tahoe next time that is more rustic, as this neghbourhood although very safe, felt like a "subdivison" of small motels. I would still recommend this hotel for the budget minded.

We stayed here for a week and can't say enough about the wonderful atmosphere, service, location and comfort. The room was ample with a nice kitchenette, the bed was comfortable and the staff extremely attentive. We were greeted every morning with a smile and recommendations for places to eat and see. The location is great...a couple minutes' walk to the beach, less than 5 minutes to shopping/restaurants and the Heavenly Gondola and about 7 minutes to the casinos. There are several nice areas outside to sit and have your morning coffee or a glass of wine at the end of the day.

We made this reservation without seeing the hotel, but were more than excited to arrive and find a charming hotel near the casinos in South Lake Tahoe. Off of the beaten path, but definitely not a beat up hotel! Newly renovated, the room was clean, the bath area was updated with stone tile work, and the bedroom was beautifully decorated with new bedding, a comfortable mattress, and newly painted walls. The hotel grounds were clean with a country/mountain theme decorating the walkways and balcony. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Romantic weekend or family get away, this hotel meets the needs of any traveler. We definitely will be returning!

Room Tip: Some rooms have a single solid door, our room had double french style doors that opened out onto the...

We chose this hotel because they are pet friendly and rated #2 on Trip Advisor. We stayed here for one night to attend our friends wedding. (Tahoe cabin room #A) When booking we received the rate of $99 for the night for . So we booked it, and then ten minutes later we received a phone call from Alpenrose stating that it would be another $20 for the night. (Due to a concert at a near by casino) Upon arrival, check-in was pleasant and the room was very clean. The two issue's we had were. 1. The walls are paper thin (you can hear the guests in the rooms around yours talking, walking, and using the restroom). 2. The bed is rock hard and very uncomfortable. The breakfast was average and consisted of coffee, cereal, fruit and scones. Due to the sleep quality we will choose to stay elsewhere next time we visit South Lake Tahoe.

Room Tip: Stay on 2nd floor due to noise.

The Alpenrose Inn is fairly-priced in a terrific location. It has tons of charm and is clearly lovingly managed by Hannah. Indeed, she goes out of her way to accomodate her guests. After a three night visit but with an early morning departure, she made a special effort to provide a "to-go" breakfast. A thoughtful jesture.

Our downstairs room was nicely done, surprisingly large, and newly updated. Again, a great value. Only one issue -- the noise and foodsteps of our upstairs neighbors was surprisingly loud -- not unbearable during an off-season visit but with lots of foot traffic it could be.
