Hi - HatMan Geno here - and it's been about a year since I stayed at this motel/hotel...and I'm happy to report that it is still a great deal for a simple, safe and clean overnight stay.
As those of you that follow my travels know, my "scale" is based as follows: is it clean, functional, safe, comfortable and worth the price charged. I do NOT use a traditional scale - you know, Hilton better than Motel 6 because of amenities, etc. - as I have found that simple hotels can be every bit as "worthy" a stay as those with all the highest class amenities.
So...here's what makes this a good, very inexpensive place to stay...
CLEAN -
The room was clean in virtually all respects (some slight dust on the window blinds, but nothing gross or unhealthy). I stayed with my wife in Room 105; our friends stayed in Room 103. It was non-smoking and did NOT have any damp nor musty odors. Sheets, towels, etc., were all clean and in very good condition.
ROOM CONDITION and AMENITIES -
Alarm clock, TV with remote control (HBO included), internet (free/no additional charge), refrigerator, microwave, and lights were all fully functional and in very good condition. There were also an ironing board and an iron, but had no need to use them on this trip. As I mentioned in my review last year, this is like time travel to a 1960s vintage hotel, but in a very good way. The mattress was firm and we slept very soundly.
BATHROOM -
Everything worked and was actually quaint and simple. The shower is definitely a one-person size, and the towels of the more traditional smaller size that you'd remember from a motel of the 1960's era, and there was also a small basket with some packets of shampoo, hand cream, and a small bar of soap. Sink and toilet were clean and functioning well, and hot water ample.
PROBLEMS or SUGGESTIONS -
Actually, none, really. The water pressure was a little weak, but certainly adequate, and the towels not your typical large wrap-arong type, but hey: it was $50 including all taxes...really. This is not a "resort". It IS a good deal for the price to get a good night's rest.
CONCLUDING RECOMMENDATION -
If you are looking for a clean, very simple, safe place to stay, this is great for a quick getaway. The owner - a truly friendly and kind gentleman named "Jay" - takes his place seriously and wants his guests to have a good experience.
So...give them a try if you are in South Lake Tahoe.
And I'll see YOU from our next stop. Until then...Ciao-4-Now!
