“Typical for what you'd expect, but EXCEPTIONALLY pet-friendly......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

I just stayed at Big Pines January 6-8, on a weekend ski trip with a friend. The best thing about this place is their attitude towards people travelling with their pets: it was GREAT, no issues at check-in, no complaints during my stay about my dog being there, barking, etc....Some minuses: there's not really too many choices at breakfast: it's like sub-par continental. No cold cereal choices, no bananas, dixie cups of juice? Really? This place is not a chain motel, but it's breakfast certainly was. The pluses: the room was clean, not too small, there was ample heat and hot water, and the microwave and fridge were in working order. Other pluses: the location. Close to the Heavenly Gondola and Heavenly Village, the Casinos, etc....location can't be beat. The BIGGEST plus: the price! I paid $37 + taxes per night!!! I will most likely stay again on a future trip, unless another place to stay materializes for me.Overall, though, a good value for unexceptional, yet solid accomodations.

Room Tip: Go second floor. There's no one up above you. Place seemed quiet overall though. There's no...

We recently had a great experience at BPMH. $45 plus taxes for a King room (#146). It was worth every penny. Nice, clean and spacious room with excellent heat. Safe in room and if you need, dogs are allowed for $15/night. Great location as well, nice and quiet but close to everything. I would definitely recommend folks to stay here and look forward to doing so again soon. Note: Prices in house are more than what you can get online. They will match internet prices. The best I found was on Orbitz.com

Room Tip: #146 is a spacious King bed, non smoking room.

This place is great for anyone heading to South Lake Tahoe at the last minute. You cannot beat the price for a place that is so centrally located to restaurants, casinos, ski lift and the beach (within 2 blocks of everything you need). You even get free breakfast in the morning! The room itself could use some updating but is a very good size and more importantly clean.

One thing to point out, while this hotel is only 2 blocks from the main attractions, it is located on a very dark road without much street lighting. It can be a little scary to walk at night, especially with all the constructions around and some of the motels nearby that have gone our of business.

Overall we were very happy with our stay. The staff was very friendly and very willing to provide us with recommendations about the area. We will certainly be back next time we are in the area. You cannot beat their prices!

This is the type of place that is not for everyone. It was our first trip to this area so we were definitely not familiar with the different sections of town. Big Pines is very centrally located which is convenient for those who want to be near the "action" (night life). Restaurants, shopping, casinos are within walking distance. There is a beach several blocks away but it is small and very busy. The hotel does provide a free beach pass. We would have preferred something more secluded and quiet---away from the central South Lake Tahoe area. This hotel would definitely also appeal more to the younger crowd. The rooms around us were occupied by many young people (teenagers and in their 20's) and they were very noisy late into the night. We could hear everything going on next door to us and were forced to bang on the wall at midnight to ask them to be more considerate of others. We were awakened, as well, in the wee hours by noisy people coming back from a night on the town. Also, parking was not great. The hotel was full and parking spots were hard to find as well as being a tight squeeze for our van. While the rooms were clean they were not large and the fixtures and decorating were tired looking (could use some updating). The bathroom, in particular, was run down. The breakfast included with the room was skimpy compared to most hotels. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful and the price of the hotel was average.

Thank you very much for the review. We are centrally located, which sometimes means that night life from nearby casinos may affect us. However, we always provide our guests with telephone number to our night manager and we encourage our guests to call him if they experience any inconvience. We are working on a plan to rejuvenate our property and we hope to introduce major improvements in the nearest future. We value your opinion and hope that you will visit us again. We will make sure that the quality of your stay here will be much better

The motel was quiet, centrally located, clean, and comfortable at a very reasonable price. Exactly what we look for when we take a spur of the moment trip to just get away for a day or two. We will be back again!!!

Room Tip: We always prefer an upstairs room

Our one night stay at the Big Pine Mountain House of Tahoe was a delightful surprise. The sparkling clean pool was fun for kids, and we could leave the car to walk one block to the Gondola, one block to evening fun at Stateline, and one block to the private Lake Tahoe beach!
Our room had clean bathrooms, a firm queen bed and lots of pillows and cable TV and free internet if we wanted. Their newly updated Conference Room will be perfect for some future Retreats our group has planned. We had a QUIET and restful night's sleep being cared for by the warm wonderful staff. We will be coming again for sure!

Room Tip: Bring some comfy walking shoes to walk to the places nearby!
