“Sufficient Home Base in Tahoe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2009

The Americana is a perfectly fine timeshare, and the location is just plain perfect in my favorite place to vacation: Lake Tahoe!

The lack of full kitchen was the primary issue, and the rooms (with the step down to the bathroom) are only adequate. Nevertheless, the pool/spa is great, they have loaner bikes and golf clubs, and they do some "extra" things to make it fun and less expensive (free taco night was a highlight, given the fact that we couldn't really cook due to the kitchen issue).

The staff is friendly and helpful, and it seems like a great place for kids, so I would definitely recommend it for families. Being walking distance to the casinos was a plus, and free access to the beach was a HUGE bonus for a non-beachside resort to provide. Overall, a positive experience, but hardly a five star place.

I checked in on a hot evening in late July. While I did not expect airconditioning, it would seem that having had the window open, even minimally, prior to arrival would have been nice. It was hot, and the only window to open was the main window next to the exterior door entrance. I did not feel secure under the circumstances. The room was very clean, and provided for nearly every necessity if you were staying for a day or longer, with excellent combinations of kitchen equipment and table, chairs, sofa, etc. The decor seemed to be whatever was on special; the color scheme, style, and recent renovations had no continuity at all. The photos are very misleading regarding the size of the room and property. Apparently there had been some recent upgrades to the room, because I found a small cut piece of ceramic tile and a lose nail on the floor left behind by the installer. Fortunatley I did not step on it. If one has lower expectations than what the pics and several reviews indicate, it probably is an OK property that is more in the 70-80's era. I checked out in the morning and found a locaton that was nicer and cheaper.

We stayed a total of four nights at the Americana Village Resort in South Lake Tahoe and found it to be a great vacation spot close to the center of town. From the outside, the property looks a little dated (maybe still in the '70s or '80s), but the rooms are updated and very clean. We stayed in an Ambassador unit with a queen bed and a queen sleeper sofa and had plenty of room. We had a small dining area with a kitchenette (including a microwave and a mid-size refrigerator), but we only used the refrigerator here. The shower was a great size (no tub) with two showerheads - I think I read another review that said you could only use them one at a time but that was not true with ours. The rest of the bathroom was a little claustrophobic - especially the sink area, but wasn't so bad if you left the door open.

The pool area was nice and was never crowded, even though we were here shortly before Memorial Day. The hot tub was nice and also not crowded. We found that as long as we were quiet and not causing problems, the front office staff was willing to leave the pool open past the posted hours.

Located just far enough off of the main road so that you weren't bothered by traffic sounds, this resort is perfect for a getaway to Tahoe. Although there are plenty of bikes available in this area, you'll definitely want a car to explore the lake and to reach many of the restaurants and attractions. The only drawback is that the parking lot is small and you may have to park a little ways away from your room.

A group of 4 of us rented 2 rooms for 3 nights. Since it was only guys on the trip we decided on staying at the lowest cost place we could find on Expedia. I was a little hesitant as it was only 2 stars but we figured we were only going to sleep in the room so who cares...Well to our surprise the rooms were excellent. We ended up paying about 60 per night for 3 nights (30 per person). Each room we rented had a bed and a fold out couch. There was a drape divider in the room as well to separate. The bathrooms were nice and very clean. The hotel staff was extremely helpful, the maids did a great job, and when we left I had forgotten some business papers on a table. 3 days later I had them returned in the mail. They have a pool and spa which we used and was nice and warm. Great location to Stateline which you could walk but a $5 cab ride is just as easy. Not too loud in the morning. We were on the gorund level with only one floor above and it wasn't ever loud (ie people walking upstairs). Neighbors were quiet too, no big room parties nearby. Room did not smell like smoke or bug spray. I was thoroughly impressed for the price and would stay there with my family next year. I loved the popcorn stand in the lobby. Its always full of tasty popcorn. I have to say, they run a professional, well run business. I stayed in the bed and it was a little stiffer than i have at home but I was able to sleep just great. I did not hear any complaints about the couch sleep bed from my friends.

my boyfriend and i went here last month, it was our first stay. the staff was very friendly, the room was very clean.. it has funky older furniture styes, but its nice. in our room.. we walked into a little living room with a couch, armchair, and coffee table. 2 steps up to the bed and sitting table. (curtain can be pulled shut for privacy from the living room or light from the window). 2 steps down from the bed area is the little kitchenette, with a blender, coffee maker (must bring your own coffee), toaster and microwave. under the sink was dish soap, clean sponge and drying rack to clean your dishes. the cabinets had full silverware, potholder, glasses, plates, bowls, etc. the bathroom was very nice, separate vanity with good lighting, dual showerheads! in a huge shower. everything was very clean and we really enjoyed the fresh popcorn in the lobby at anytime we wanted while they are open. there is a really cute rec room where you can check out all kinds of stuff, board games, sports equipment and some snow equipment and little sleds. you just sign them out! they have activities for everyone, arts n crafts, bingo, movies on the tv in the rec room. its really nice. for a smaller hotel/motel type place, this is on the upper end. its located on pioneer trail right off of the main strip right about a block or 2 from the heavenly village shopping area! i saw the shuttle coming everyday to pick up and drop off skiers and take them to heavenly. so if you are looking to go during ski season, this would be a great location to stay. i assumed the pool was heated because i saw people swimming and using the hot tub and it was cold and snowy! i posted some pictures i took of our room and some of the property, i hope this review helped! we had a wonderful time there.

If you're looking for a 4 or 5-star hotel, look elsewhere. This place definitely feels like an extended stay hotel. It's a bit larger and more homey than a normal hotel room, with a kitchenette and dining table. The kitchenette was fully stocked with a cups, plates, and silverware. Appliance-wise, you get a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and a blender. The sink is tiny, so washing dishes can be a challenge. The dining table was a nice touch - for some reason, it just made the room more comfy.

The bathroom was clean, and the towels were pretty good. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there's two showerheads, but this sounds better than it actually was because you can only use one at a time, and one of them sucked.

The furnishings were a bit dated but functional. And by dated, I mean mirrors everywhere and a color scheme somewhere between pink and red. However, the bed was nice and firm, and there were enough blankets to keep us warm. And if you need to turn up the thermostat and you can't find it, look behind the TV. There's no air conditioning, only a ceiling fan, so I can see it getting hot in the summer.

I don't know if the walls were thin or not, but we rarely heard our neighbors. Maybe we got lucky. However, we had a room next to the stairs, and in the morning, the sound of ski boots descending definitely woke us up.

One note - we reserved through Orbitz, and they will forward your credit card info to the hotel instead of charging you at the time of the reservation. So don't freak out about getting double-charged when the front desk says they're charging your card for the night(s).

Overall, we had a good stay at the Americana, and will definitely recommend it to our friends.
