“Good experience - almost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed here during October, before snow hit and while the colors around the Lake were beautiful. We just wanted somewhere clean, within walking distance to shops and restaurants, etc.

I booked online for the basic room, basic rate. When I checked in I was told we had been upgraded to the "honeymoon suite" since it was sitting empty and (stupidly), I didn't question it. It was a great room - no complaints there. We were just annoyed to find that we were charged for the upgrade without being told. Should I have asked? Yes. However, I would have appreciated a bit of a heads up from the person who checked us in - a surprise at check-out is never fun.

Other than that little miscommunication, it was a good stay. Breakfast was free (other than tip) and good the next morning. The hotel itself is close to casinos, shops, restaurants. You can walk to and from Heavenly Village, which is a fun place to walk around. The room was clean, maybe a bit dated, but quiet and the amenities were fine.

So, if it hadn't been for the "upgrade" that cost us much more than we were anticipating (which was mostly my fault), this would have been an absolutely great stay.

“Family Pride!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

My Father built the Best Western Station House Inn at S.Lake Tahoe, CA. He bought 24 housekeeping cottages that were called "Starbuck Cottages. He re-named them "Saphire Beach Lodge." He later tore the cottages down and built "Camelot Tahoe." He sold it and it is now BW SHI. I have stayed there many times over the years and have always had a clean room, courteous service, best breakfast cooked to order and we never told the staff that my father built it and our family owned it! It is so conveniently located close to shopping, clubs, lake, etc. etc. Glad to see that others still think so highly of my Father's dream.

Room Tip: Any room will be nice. Just ask for what you want.

“+ Great price-performance ratio, + convenient and quiet location, + large and nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This Best Western is located close to the lake and just 2 blocks from Lake Tahoe Blvd and Heavenly Village with the gondola if you come here in winter.
I come here often since the price-performance ratio is usually unbeatable. The hotel is “expensive” enough to avoid drunken casino guests and it is off the main tracks so you do not have to face loud pedestrians.
It is cozy and comes in a kind of cabin/log house style, very clean, and the rate includes a tasty American breakfast a la carte. I cannot understand the other reviews regarding the staff since they are always warm and welcoming.

+ quiet location
+ good room size
+ very clean and cozy
+ friendly staff
+ close to Heavenly Village and the lake
+ delicious breakfast
+ nice cultured guests
- in winter people wearing ski boots might hate the 2 block distance to the gondola

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs within the building where the reception is or next to the restaurant. The bu...

“Think we would take a pass on this old building next time ....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We paid $85 for a king room with breakfast in early November. The room is nice with fridge and sink outside and inside the bathroom. There had been some upgrades although the TV was still the big, old box. Although there was very few guests staying in the hotel we were all crowded into one area. We got a ground floor room and could hear the people upstairs walking around even with the TV on. The real downside for us is that the heat is controlled by the front desk and we could not open a window as we were on the ground floor. Second floor would have had the same problem as there is a walkway right outside the window. Blinds and windows must stay closed on both levels as there is no privacy. The positive is good hot breakfast served by a waiter that reminds you to tip.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms are preferable but you cannot open the window or blinds as there is no privacy.

“Love this place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

I always have good things to say about this location. Rooms are fabulous. Since my last stay they have installed shower doors. No more fighting with a shower curtain. You get a free breakfast with your stay . It's a full breakfast in a restaurant setting, very good. Its about 2 blocks to Casino's ( walking). My only complaint is the towels were rough..
