“Great Place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Forest Suite Resort from December 31st thru January 7th. We stayed in a one bedroom suite, which had a full kitchen, separate bedroom, and it had a pull out couch so definitely could have fit more people. I highly recommend this place! It is in a great loaction to the casions, grocery store, restaurants and most importantly the gondola. The gondola literally goes over the resort and basically you just have to cross a side street and you are at the entrance. I rated this hotel with a 5 for cleanliness. I know others complained about the cleanliness but I would just say that the rooms are just outdated. The maid came everyday and did a great job of cleaning up the place. So nice that you don't have to do your own dishes when you are on vacation. The bed was very comfortable with looked to be new bedding. If you want a place with granite counter tops and that sort of upscale amenities then you might want to stay somewhere else. As for us we enjoyed the ski lodge feeling of the place and would definitely stay here again. In addition, the employees at the front desk were extremely helpful. I think we probably called or stopped by the front desk at least once a day asking for recommendations of places to eat, lift tickets, bus schedules, etc. I guess 2 things I would say negative about the place is the shower and the lack of a fireplace. My husband is 6'5 and the shower head was much lower than that and the water pressure at peak hours is low but at least there was hot water.

I stayed in a two bedroom suite with my son, his wife and two young grandchildren. The rooms were adequate but felt sleazy because of the nasty carpets, paper thin blankets and tiny sheets. Our room was on the second floor (no elevator) overlooking the pool. There were noisy parties at the pool most nights. The best thing this hotel has going for it is it's location. It's too bad they've let it get so outdated.

Dear GloberoamerCt –

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing Forest Suites for your vacation. Please allow me to comment on some of your review. We are sorry to hear you found the room to be sleazy. Did you have a chance to contact the front desk and explain your concerns? If so, we would have been more than happy to bring you new sheets, blankets, or any other items you needed to feel more comfortable. Your building did not have an elevator, but several other buildings on property do, and we would have been more than happy to move your group to another building, if elevator accessibility was an issue for you and your family. South Lake Tahoe has a sound ordinance that goes into effect at 10pm, so if someone was at the pool after hours, it was completely in your right to report it to the front desk. We could have taken care of the noise situation, had we been notified. I know most guests don’t realize that they can rectify these situations when they are still on property, but we urge you to contact the front desk the next time an issue arises, so we can make the rest of your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. While we realize there are challenges with an older property, we are constantly upgrading our suites and grounds, and wish we could have shown this to you while you were here. We did notice on your Tripadvisor profile that your travel style is “Nothing but the best”. Forest Suites is a 2-3 star hotel and market ourselves as such. Furthermore, as you noted in your byline, we set our rates accordingly, and feel that for our location, pricepoint, and excellent customer service, we are by far the best deal in the Heavenly Village area. We’d like the chance to make it up to you, so please contact me, the General Manager, to discuss this further.

I took my daughters and their friends to Tahoe for Labor Day weekend. We had a 2 bedroom plus sofabed suite at The Forest Suites Resort. The room was clean although the carpet wa sstained. The mattress was buckled in the middle.

The location was fantastic but I did not like the dark carport we had to go thru into a dark hall and then up stairs to our room.
The hot tub and pools were fantastic.

Dear Sillymeow –

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing Forest Suites for your Labor Day Weekend. Please allow me to comment on some of your review. We are sorry to hear that your mattress was unsatisfactory. Your review was unclear whether it was the suite mattress or sofa bed mattress that was buckled, but if notified, we would have loved the opportunity to rectify the situation. Our carpets are regularly deep cleaned, however due to our proximity to Heavenly Ski Resort and Forestry Land, the carpets can get worn from excessive traffic. We are glad, though, that you still found everything clean and to your satisfaction. The carports are not as bright as other areas of the property, we agree, but safety is a major concern for us and there is sufficient lighting for those using the area. For those that choose not to use the carport entrances and exits, we have several other doors for guests to use, to access their building and floor. And we are glad to hear you got to take advantage, and enjoyed, our two outdoor heated pools and Jacuzzis. We thank you again for your feedback and welcome you back for a future stay.

we stayed in a two bedroom suite and will say we had a great time in this hotel. Although it is older and the carpets are stained, the kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, dishes, and pans you need to cook with. The location was great-close to the heavenly shops and a very short walk to the heavenly gondola. There is a grocery store across the street and ski rentals within walking distance. Staff were very friendly and anything we asked for they made every effort to get for us. There is a great game room above the lobby with pool table and foosball, along with a few other games. We will definitely stay here again.

The location couldn't have been better. Close enough to everything, but far enough to Not
be in all the noise of the casinos. Excellent service, morning food, carport parking. A gym,
jaccuzi, massage, just close to everything.

I stayed there with my husband and 2 sons who are in college on the 23rd, 24, 25th. The place was fine.......you get what you pay for. I was able to cook all our meals in the unit, the staff were efficient, walk ways were clear, gondola and grocery store 5 mins away. It could use some new carpeting, but when I saw my sons brings in all their boarding gear I thounght, why bother? We didn't move our car for 3 days.....we could walk to NV to gamble.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2010

After reading the review below, I have to wonder if we were in the same place at all, since our experience was completely different staying at Forest Suites.

First off, the location IS excellent. 2 minute walk to the gondola at Heavenly (okay, a little longer in ski boots!), right at the back of the Heavenly Village, but away from the street. Market, restaurants, shops, casinos and gondola all within walking distance. Also great is that there is a ski rental shop IN the lobby of Forest Suites. Super convenient. Book online and get an awesome discount, then pickup and drop off right there.

Second, the rooms are exactly as I would expect for a ski trip. The carpets are older, the elevator is tiny and kinda creepy. The room itself was very clean, with new paint, moldings, etc. It looked very nice and our 1 bedroom suite was huge. The kitchen contained basics; pots/pans/dishes for 4/basic utensils. If you're planning on cooking gourmet meals, you'll be missing some items and probably annoyed. The bed was very comfortable. Each room was spacious; bedroom, living area, bathroom. We kept the heat fairly warm and never had air conditioning kick in. Every day, we received new soaps/shampoos, etc- we actually had more than we needed. Housekeeping did an excellent job of our room; they were very fast and even washed our dishes (which we would have gladly done, but they always got to them before we did!). Also nice is that if you have a vehicle there was carport parking, so that you didn't have to dig your car out from snow.

Third; the grounds of the hotel. We stayed the week before Xmas and it snowed on and off the whole time. The hottub was working and people were in it every evening. There were employees clearing pathways during active snowing, and there was always salt (you could tell because it was blue) on walkways. The carport was the only place that was icy and could have used more salting. Breakfast was free and available every morning in the main lobby (which was very nice with a welcoming fireplace). Employees we dealt with were all very helpful and friendly.

Personally, when I go on a ski trip, I am not looking for ultra accomodations; I want cozy, welcoming and comfortable after a long day of skiing. Forest Suites was exactly what we were looking for, and was a great value at $130/night for a suite with full kitchen.
