“Perfect for our weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We had the deluxe 1 bdrm suite which had a king bed, pull out sofa (linen on sofa a bit tatty with tears) and full kitchen with dining setting - plenty of space. Breakfast was adequate, bagels, toast, coffee etc. Location superb! Once you enter South Lake Tahoe it is only a short drive to the motel and it is centrally located and just walk to cinema and restauarants. 20 mins drive to beautiful Emerald Bay. Only disappointment was the Gondola was under maintenance but we hope to return and will stay at Forest Suites.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We just spent 4 days and 3 nights in one of their beautiful suites. This is living room, kitchen, and bedroom with a giant bathroom. It looks like a 1 bedroom apartment. Kitchen is separate from the living room but has an opening with breakfast bar with stools as well as separate table with 4 chairs. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need to cook with or eat with. Elegant lether chairs and sofa in living room as well as an entertainment cabinet. The bedroom is large with king bed. It is also a green facility, and if you choose to have minimum maid service, you are rewarded with a bottle of wine, or snack box. They do have a continental breakfast but will be changing to a full breakfast in December. They are completely refurnishing all the rooms with new items. We just got lucky and were in on that had already been renovated. It was beautiful. The grounds are beautiful and filled with tall pine trees. You know you are in a forest. The main registration room has a beautiful floor to 2 story ceiling river rock fireplace. Also, there is a game room for the kids (no matter what age) There is a bar with happy hour (now only on week-ends, but changing to every night in December). In all, this was a wonderful experience.

We recently stayed at Forest Suites Resort. We had our adult children with us, so there were six of us. The two bedroom suite offered nice space, small kitchen and two bathrooms. This was great so we were not cramped. They had laundry facilities which was great since we had just come off a three day camping trip. The building was older but the remodeling on the inside made it very nice. The location was great to walk to shopping and casinos. The food nearby was limited. We found a great deal to stay there (off season). We did explore the lake the following day and that is great to hang out around. The breakfast they offered was very limited. Not sure if this was because it was off season.

Dear Rockriver,

Thanks for spending time at our resort this last weekend. I am delighted you were able to comment on our new furniture and spacious rooms perfect for a large group. That is exactly who we are. As for the breakfast, we officially offer American "Hot" buffet starting on December 1st, 2012. Currently we have a limited continental but understand this is very important to families and we've made that upgrade and change. Next time you come back to Lake Tahoe for a camping trip or need a hotel to relax in I hope you come back and see us.

Thanks again!

Really a 3.5, but Trip Advisor does not allow for that so I'm rounding up:) Stayed with my wife on a Saturday/Sunday night in a suite on an excellent fall special deal. For the price ($108.75 per night before taxes) we felt it was a good deal, but not really the place to go for a romantic weekend getaway. The room-size and the in-room kitchen is perfect for a family getaway, however. King-size bed in the bed-room and sofa bed in the living room with space for at least a rollaway or some sleeping bags. They have a DVD player with the TV in the living room. If you want a great place for a family getaway that does not break the bank then I think this is it. We had a 2nd floor room next to the road, so definitely ask for a top floor room that faces the pool so you don't hear the traffic. There was some toothpaste stuck to the wall in the bathroom that was missed by housekeeping and the entire room had the smell of an oven that was just cleaned. I'm guessing they just use the auto-cleaning feature on the oven when it has been used and guests check-out, but unfortunately the smell has evidently permeated into the draperies, carpet and cloth furniture, because although we left the windows and balcony door open all day Sunday while we were out, as soon as the room was closed up the smell came right back. It was most noticeable when you first came in from the outside, and once you were in the room for a bit it wasn't bad enough to make us want to move rooms, but it detracted from the overall experience. The room was a bit dated, and could use some maintenance touches. There are also no screens on the windows or the balcony door if you happen to stay in the summer and like fresh air. The pool was already covered for the winter, but it appeared that the two person sized Jacuzzi was still available for use. The fitness center needs some work, there are not enough different size-dumbells or plates for the single bar they have in the room to get a decent work-out. The universal machine was broken. Did not try out the treadmill or the stationary bike. The resort is perfectly located within walking distance to the Gondola at Heavenly, the shops, Starbucks, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, the Casinos, and the state park across the street. So close to the state park in fact that the wildlife swing by on occasion and use the facilities. On the way back to our room from Starbucks about 8:30pm Sunday evening, a balck bear was climbing down from one of the trees right alongside the building we were staying in:) The staff that we met at check-in and check-out and the lone housekeeper we saw during our stay were very friendly, helpful and informative. Although I only took advantage of the Starbuck's coffee at their complimentary continental breakfast, I felt again, that even offering a complimentary continental breakfast for the rate we were paying was an excellent deal. They have a bar in the main building (lobby check-in) but we did not stop by. They also have an upstairs game room with a few coin operated video games and coin operated pool table. I doubt just the two of us will go back, but we will certainly make this our top choice when we go up with our children.

Room Tip: Topmost floor overlooking the pool.

Dear Old Man River,

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed comment. I first want to apologize about the automatic oven cleaner and the smell that transpired. We certainly always take advantage of those type of cleaning opportunities and we will investigate to see if there are opportunities to minimize or eliminate any smell that transpires. We are excited that you took advantage of our complimentary Starbucks coffee & we are excited about being able to offer this to all of our resort guests. As much as we are setup perfectly for families, I encourage you and your wife to come back. Starting on December 1, we will have complimentary wine and cheese receptions in the bar Monday-Friday, exercise classes, to name just a few amenities applicable to a couple wanting to get away.

Hope to see you!

My daughter and I stayed at the resort for a mother/daughter weekend. We rented one of the two bedroom suites that had a living room and kitchen. It is an older establishment, but they have done remodeling. We were pleasantly surprised with the suite. Clean, comfortable. We had two bathrooms which is a must with two women! The beds were comfortable, the suite was clean. The location is great - walking distance to the casinos and Heavenly Village. I do recommend.

I stayed here in September 2012. We had booked a hotel room but were upgraded to a suite. The hotel is still in the process of a remodel. The suite we stayed in had been partially remodeled. It had new furnishings in the living room and new TV's; it looked like new tile on the bathroom floor. The bathroom was missing a towel bar but only had the brackets that a towel bar would hang on...it was adequate to hang our towels on. Front desk personnel were polite and efficient. I applaud the Forest Suites for offering a "green package"....agree to not have your sheets and towels changed and you can select a bottle of wine. We stayed 3 nights and got to select a "movie package" for the second night...ours included a Hershey's chocolate bar and a pack of Skittles, 2 sodas and microwave popcorn. A nice perk! The continental breakfast was adequate although I had hoped they had the "make your own" belgian waffles that some other hotels offer. The "fresh" flowers on the dining tables were all half dead the day we arrived and 3 days later the same flowers were still on the table. Personally I would rather see silk flowers than dead flowers on the table.

Room Tip: So close to the state line and casinos and directly behind the Marriott complex. Easy walking distan...

Dear Marilyn,

I truly appreciate the time it took to sit down and write this review. We apologize about the delay in getting our flowers on our breakfast tables out as they should have been changed properly. I am delighted you took advantage of the "Green Clean Program" during your stay. It is a great program and very popular. We hope to see you again very soon!

Thanks

This is still one of the nicest south shore locations and now they have new furniture! The rooms are really nice and updated. You can always have meals in your own kitchen or walk across the street to shopping center or the gondola for ride up the hill or you can also walk across the street to the new Van Sickle park.

Dear Cindy R,

We are thrilled you enjoyed our new furniture. We are equally excited. You are correct in that our location is the best spot in South Lake and so close to everything. Also, all of our oversized rooms and suites are perfect for cooking if you so desire to avoid a night at one of the many restaurants within walking distance. We look forward to your next visit and hope to see you on the slopes!

Warm regards,
