“Great location, a bit crusty, but average for the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

This was our first stay in the South Lake Tahoe area, as we had a number of social events 4 days in a row. The main reason for the choice was location, 2nd was value. As Tahoe has been a destination for decades, many of the facilities around the lake are run down. There a number of exceptions, but the lake is surrounded by facilities way beyond their prime. South Lake has the highest concentration of crusty old motels, all stacked up on the California border. On the Nevada side, you have older casinos with their own issues, least of which is older rooms and, well the casino atmosphere.

That being said, the Blue Lake Inn, though in need of serious updating (worn out carpet, worn out sinks, etc), it was an interesting first experience. Consider as close to camping without having to pitch a tent. The staff was nice, the location was perfect, including free passes to a fee-based beach area with an excellent little lakeside restaurant, plenty of parking, walking distance to the concert facilities, numerous eating choices, supermarket, Edgewood (the celebrity ProAm was this weekend), and for skiers, a short walk to the gondola at Heavenly, and of course, a short walk to the beach...Lake Tahoe and spectacular views!

The value is here if you can look past the cheesy motel feel (you know, the kind you see on TV where if you're seen there, you must be doing something wrong?!!). Have a sense of humor and enjoy a vintage stay!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the far side of the inn, away from the main parking lot.

Great price, quiet, dog friendly even has dog treats at front desk. Needs updating but for the price it was clean and worked just great for us. Would definitely stay there again. Staff very nice and surprisingly good coffee in morning.

Room Tip: We were on the back side bottom floor - very quiet.

Run-down rooms, but clean. noisy neighbors. Cheap! We won't go back, but it was good enough for a last minute cheap get-away.

Thank you for your review. I apologize that your Blue Lake stay was not fully enjoyable. As far as noisy neighbours are concerned, we always hope that our guests are more conscious about their surroundings. If, however, issues of noise occur, front desk staff and night manager are always here to solve the problem if they are informed by you. Tough economic times unfortunately make it harder to allocate appropiorate means to upgrade all rooms. However, we always make sure that all our rooms are clean and comfortable, and as much as we can we try to upgrade features of our rooms. We also keep our prices in the lower range so that everybody can afford a getaway to one of the most beautiful places of the world. Our location, free wi-fi, free continental breakfast , free access to private beach and price itself really make us a very competitive economy hotel in the area.

I stayed at The Blue Lake Inn twice ski season. A short walk over to the Heavenly Gondola, and there's a shopping center also within walking distance with a Starbucks, a great Pizza Place, and a Raleys grocery store that has a hot/salad bar.

WiFi worked better in the first room I stayed in, which was closer to the office. Other than that everything was great. Place was clean and cozy and *very* reasonably priced! I will be back!

Have stayed here many times. It has two floors. Have a good variety of rooms to choose from. The room are in decent condition and kept clean. Free parking and have never had problem finding spot. The hotel is within walking distance to gondola shopping and casinos. The price for rooms are very competitve. They have out door hot tub and pool. Pool not open in winter. They do have continental breakfast, but very limited only donuts, apples coffee tea and milk.

Room Tip: Less people in rooms on back side of hotel. They have rooms with jacuzzis also two bedrooms ones
