“Just as Advertised and Reviewed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2010

I began researching romantic hotels in South Lake Tahoe for my anniversary weekend. I came across Inn By The Lake and found it to have great reviews and the thing that impressed me most was the fact that Dan responded to the reviews. A manager that takes that much time shows that he is dedicated to making sure the property is kept up.

I arrived for check-in and was very surprised to find a welcome note in the front lobby for my wife and my anniversary. It was unexpected and very much appreciated. My wife was very impressed with that.

We found our room to be very large and very worth the money we spent. Our room had a great view of the lake and even had a full kitchen inside. The champagne glasses and personal note in the room was a very nice touch. The hotel is a great location, close to everything but quiet enough to just relax and enjoy the views. We enjoyed the large spa tub and large living room area. This hotel was a very refreshing change from your typical cookie cutter hotel.

The staff was excellent and we received an excellent recommendation for a local Mexican Resturant (Mazatlan) which was just down the street. Each time I went to the front desk they said congratulations on my anniversary, that was a welcome change from the typical hotel staff that just asks for a credit card and hands you the room key.

I will definately be staying here in the future and will recommed it to my friends and family.

Aside from walking around our grounds and greeting visitors at every opportunity, I really do not have as many chances to speak with guests, as I would like. Frequently, they are simply enjoying our facilities or more often taking in the many wonderful sights and activities in and around Lake Tahoe. Consequently, I really appreciate it when guests post comments on a site as credible as TripAdvisor, which affords me the opportunity to respond and share my thoughts with others.

What could be more rewarding than to learn that our team and facilities were positively received? This is especially gratifying when it comes from visitors who entrusted us to be their home away from home on their anniversary. Thank you and thank you for sharing your experience at Inn by the Lake.
Best Regards,
Dan

Stayed in the Inn by Lake at the end of September as part of a 3 week driving tour of California. Really enjoyed our stay here the room was huge easily the biggest of the 9 hotels we stayed in whilst in CA! Nice large comfortable bed with a reasonably nice view of the pool which could be enjoyed from a balcony. We tend to not have much interaction with hotel staff unless we have a problem so didn’t really speak to anyone a great deal although the girl who checked us in was very friendly and eager to offer us several dinning suggestions which were close by. We made use of the pool and hot tub in the evening it was quiet and very enjoyable. Although the Inn sits on what you could call the Fringe of the town there are plenty of places to eat and drink close by. One day we walked back from the Gondola/Casino area and it took around 40 mins I think.

We booked a cruise on the lake via the hotel who arranged it for us, would highly recommend this and the hotel will arrange the free bus to collect you and drop you off. No moans about the hotel really, I kind of view it as being a fancy motel or boutique motel if such a thing exists! Happy with our choice.

Thank you for your very straightforward and positive review. Located across the street from El Dorado Beach, Inn by the Lake is actually in the center of South Lake Tahoe. Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Lodge is but a mile away via their complimentary ski shuttle, which picks up right in front of our property. My favorite, Emerald Bay, the most photographed site on the lake, is but a 15-minute drive west from the Inn. Stateline casinos are exactly two miles away to the east. Delighted you enjoyed your cruise. Incidentally, in our packages and a la carte offerings we pass the bulk of the discounts we receive from suppliers on to our guests to add value. This includes lift tickets we will be reselling this year from Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe and Kirkwood. Thank you for posting your experience.
Best Regards,
Dan

We stayed at Inn by the Lake to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Upon check-in we were greeted with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We noticed that we were wished “Happy Anniversary" on the welcome board and informed that we would receive a free upgrade due to our special occasion. The upgrade was from a regular room to a suite which included a full kitchen, lake view and Jacuzzi tub! We took advantage of the free bicycles to ride around the lake and outdoor heated spa and pool. While the rooms are a bit dated, the location right across from the lake, within walking distance of many amenities and the outstanding service won our hearts to make our celebration special.

Amazing service…what a great title! Since you shared with us, I will share with you our receipt for a great team. #1 hire nice people. #2 treat them with respect. #3 maintain a nice product and then stay out of the way, at least most of the time. Thank you for posting your comments.

This is delightful gem just across the street from Lake Tahoe. Many rooms have views across the road of the lake. The rooms are very large and clean. Staff is very very helpful.
Pool and very large spa open all year round. Great amenities. Bus comes by for casino visitors.

Thank you for recommending us for business or pleasure. Most visitors think of Lake Tahoe as a leisure destination. However, many small companies and some large entities like the US Forest Service and Barton Hospital do recommend the Inn for those with whom they do business. Our bi-level spa is open year round but we do close our pool during the winter with the exception of over the Christmas New Years Holidays. We once kept it open but no one used it when the temperature dropped. Thank you for your comments.
Best Regards,
Dan

We stayed for 3 nights, it was brilliant. The staff were helpful, we were upgraded due to a problem with the toilet in our first unit, which was a very good unit anyway. The view was excellent and it was not too far from the town centre. Very clean, very modern and we would stay there agin. The breakfast at the Bear View Cafe was high quality.

Thank you for your kind comments. Speaking of upgrades, we are doing this whenever availability permits in November. In other words, you can book a minimum rated queen room on our website or over our 800 number and be upgraded to a King Great Room. It is typically beautiful in Lake Tahoe this time of year. A wonderful place to spend your Thanksgiving Holiday!

Dan

This was a lovely little hotel. We stayed here for one night on a shotgun holiday. Decided to go to Tahoe on the friday and arrived on the saturday after renting a car. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and just what we needed. The bed was very very comfortable and the pool and hot tubs were fantastic. We had just got off a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco and wanted to flake in the pool and hot tub. To our delight they stayed open until 11pm and we took full advantage of this. i would defo stay here again. Very close to restaurants and right across the road from the lake. 4 Stars (or dots) to Inn by the Lake. Pricing is the only reason i would give it a 4 star rating. I dont think it warranted $120 a night.

Thanks so much for your very nice comments. Delighted that you enjoyed your Saturday night stay. We endeavor to offer value year round but room rates are definitely higher during peak demand periods. This is similar to the yield management practices used by airlines. With the exception that we do not charge extra for bags, pillows, blankets, Internet access.... Come visit during our fall and/or spring shoulder periods when the scenery is beauitiful, crowds are few and room rates are at their lowest.
Best Regards,
Dan

All the people we dealt with were friendly and accommidating. The rooms were very clean and roomy. The water in the pool and hot tubs were clear. Each day there was someone checking them. Across the street, there is an entrance to the lake. Nice for a morning or evening walk. Restaraunts nearby, within walking distance. I would highly recommend this place.

What a great review. You captured in a few words what Inn by the Lake is all about. You mentioned one of the important but often over looked aspects of operating an Inn. Yes, we check the cleanliness and chemicals in our pool & spa multiple times daily. In addition, we have our outside pool service check us several times a week. We feel that cleanliness is more important than being the low cost provider.
Best Regards,
Dan
