“Comfortable, reasonably priced inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2010

Our room was huge and comfortable. Our room overlooked the hot tub/spa, but it was not noisy. The staff's recommendation for dinner at Freshies was excellent. Staff took time to recommend a particular spot to park our motorcycle. The road was busy during the day, but was not too noisy for sleeping, we slept with the balcony door open and were not disturbed by the noise.

One of the great things about working in a relatively small Inn is that you typically have time to speak to guests. I'm very pleased that you found our Guest Service Represenatives to be helpful. Freshies, is located directly across the street from the Inn. As you will note from other reviews, its unique and very good. A local favorite. This is another example of why the Inn's mid-town location is so special.
Best Regards,
Dan

This is a redo of a typical So Lake motel and it's a dandy redo! The staff is incredibly friendly and eager to please. They went out of their way to literally run after us to give us a better room (quiet room at the end of the rooms that face Lake Tahoe). The rooms are huge and each has a balcony. Try for the third floor facing the lake for a nice view. The Inn sits across the street from the Lake. The pool is small but crystal clear and clean. The fitness facility has new equipment. There is a "club" room with books, tables, jigsaw puzzles...very nice.
I am not sure it commands the price however. But the location is perfect. For TV fans, careful here...no upgraded flat screen TVs here.

Delighted you found our team to be incredibly friendly! What could be more important? All right you shamed me into buying 4 flat screen TVs. Only 95 more to go and our conversion from wide bodies will be complete. Seriously, once this recession eases up a bit we will complete this process. We all know the importance of offering value and are going on our 3rd year without increasing room rates. Some discounts are even available for mid-week stays during the balance of the summer. We are very proud of the fact that we have held pricing without compromising guest service and/or property maintenance.
Best Regards,
Dan

Where to begin, there were ups and downs, we were in room 201 over the lake and also Hwy 50. Traffic noise wasnt to bad and I slept with the A/C on to block out road noise. Rooms were large, we had a jr suite with a balcony again looking over Hwy. 50 T.Vs could be upgraded and when I went to rent a PPV movie this hotel didnt have the option. When I called to book they told me no hotels were on the beach due to city laws and regulations, but when I got to tahoe I saw a hotel right down the street on the beach so i didnt appreciate being lied to. Also when asking where a good place to eat was the girl at the desk was clueless, we ended up finding great places to eat on our own. The best part was the hottub, very romantic but it would be nice if there was an age curfew after a certain time. The free bike rentals were cool but make sure all the pieces are tightened up, not well maintained. Also went to by the drinking flutes they have on display in the lobby for a romantic toast and they didnt have keys to the storage to get them. So I wont say I wont stay there again but I would try a couple different locations before I go back...

Thanks for sharing the ups and downs. We apologize sincerely for any possible misinformation you received. We did recently add to our front office team but this in no excuse. I am not allowed to mentioned other properties by name in this space. However, we are currently ranked #11 by TripAdvisor. Lodging properties numbers 17, 18 and 24 are the 3 South Lake Tahoe properties with direct lake access. As you know we are across the street from our beach. With regard to restaurants, Inn by the Lake is surrounded by several local favorites. Our restaurant, Bear Beach Cafe, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Blue Dog Pizza is located in our family fun center - Tahoe Bowl. Freshies is across the street serving lunch and dinner. Dory's Oar features a great menu and upstairs you will find the Tudor Pub. Next time you are in Lake Tahoe please give me a call in advance so I may give you two of those Inn by the Lake champagne flutes you admired. I understand your desire to explore other properties. However, should you decide to give us another chance (availability permitting) we would be pleased to upgrade your regular room reservation to one of our spa suites. Talk about romatic!
Best Regards,
Dan

We had a third floor room in the Lake building with lovely views of Lake Tahoe. We arrived too late to use the attractive pool, but in time for a glorious sunset which we enjoyed while we ate on the balcony. The room was comfortable and the hotel provided free bikes which I enjoyed. I wouldn't choose to stay in South Lake Tahoe for an extended period of time, but the hotel was in a less congested area with a lovely small park and beach across the street. Good value for $111. I found the best rate by calling the hotel directly--cheaper than the rate listed on their website or others.

Thank you for your very kind remarks and comments that will no doubt be helpful to other readers. We work hard to practice what the industry calls rate praity. In other words whether you call our 800 number or book through www.innbythelake.com you should be quoted the same rate based upon room type selected. In addition, on our site we do offer a Best Rate Guarantee. Come back and see us soon.

We originally planned on spending 5 day here during a late season ski trip, but it turned into a 1 1/2 week trip. The accomodations were very nice & quite (unlike other places we've stayed in the area). The 1st floor room was very convenient for our dog & there were many places to walk her in the area. Wanda at the front desk was very helpful when our dog got sick & required emergecy surgery. She contacted a local vet & got us an appointment right away. We will always stay here on return trips to Tahoe.

I must confess to loving your heading! However, in the spirit of transparency, should you be heading to Tahoe strictly to gamble stay in a casion hotel. Loose enough money and get a free room. Arriving late and just staying for the night? We have a few inexpensive motels. Like in your case, if others are looking for a great full service family facility in a wonderful location come stay at Inn by the Lake - the Best Place in South Lake Tahoe.
We look forward to your next visit!
Best Regards,
Dan

This Hotel came highly recommended by my sister, and really highly recommended by TripAdvisor reviewers! I have passed this location many years ago, and it had a look of calmness and beauty not found in many of the other "motels" along Hwy 50.
Booked through Expedia via TripAdvisor.com
We received a very warm and welcoming greeting from the reception staff on check in.
This hotel is unique. Boutique? Can't say. But unique? You bet. The hotel is split into two separate buildings, one adjacent to the highway and yards from the lake, with fantastic views, and the other building back away from the road, and connected to the pool/spa area. We were upgraded to the 3rd floor on the building nearest to the lake.
A good bonus was the use of magnetic security key cards not only to get into your room, but into the building as well. That added security felt great.
The room? Good. Not world class, but good! The details were what made the room special. The bedding was excellent, clean, fresh, with upscale linens and perfect comforter/duvee. The small refrigerator was new, clean and had no odor, worked well and kept some fruit , milk and beverages chilled. I remember a microwave, but never used it. The TV was tube, about 23 inch, which was fine but used only as a nightlight.
Wireless internet was good, a little slow, sometimes spotty. 3 laptops and a couple Iphones and we could drag that wireless connection to a crawl or stop. So on downtime, we'd ration the wireless.
Why in the world are we bringing our technology to such a beautiful lake? The world has changed. TV is so static. We're connected to friends, facebook, using the net to find new places, restaurants, routes, etc. Daytime is out and about, but late at night, since we don't gamble, we want to share photos with friends, family.
My only suggestion to Inn by the Lake is to call in your I.T. and build up a more robust wireless service.
The bathroom is interesting, with a tiny sink foreroom, then the bath/toilet room beyond.
Probably the style of the era when this hotel was constructed, and very usable. The tub was very clean, the water pressure high and with a little fine tuning the shower nozzle could be managed to have a good spray. Note to staff, shower head upgrades are inexpensive and a great perk for the traveler. One other quirk about the room, a very, very weird light above the table. Industrial looking - in fact, we had one in our paint room at work, its an explosion proof fixture, a steel cage surrounding a glass enclosure, with a twisty flourescent bulb inside. Just quirky!?!
The room has a balcony! Just yards from the lake (with highway 50 in between) and the views were perfect. You have about 180 deg. view, with little separation between you and your neighbors. Make friends!
That's the room, let's head to the pool! It's early June and still brisk at night and just in the low 70's for daytime. The pool looked chilly, but the two hot tubs were perfect. Saw the weight / exercise room but did not go in. The pool area is clean, well maintained and chairs and lounges were new and plenty. A great place to relax.
On the second evening we returned to a spotless room, a bottle of Beringer Rose on the table and a hand written note from the manager thanking us for selecting his hotel. Nice touch folks...You won't get that at the casino hotels!

Pro's - Location, grounds, pool, security, and friendly staff. Cons - few. Maybe that weird light above the table.
I would recommend this hotel to a friend.
Great work, Daniel (hotel manager), you've done so much with Inn by the Lake.

On behalf on the INN and TripAdvisor readers I would like to thank The Sk8Guru for such a thorough, thoughtful and accurate critique. Yes, even the cons were correct. That very, very weird (quirky) light above the desk in our lake building rooms was my pesonal selection. I prefer to think of them as effectively eclectic. You can now read at the desk. Plus, I got them on sale. Previously we had swag lamps hanging over the desk which AAA hates. You know the kind that puts out just not enough light and you bump your head against? Several months ago we upgraded the speed of our AT&T provided DSL lines which feed our property wide wireless Internet access system. We appreciate your suggestion and have asked our 24/7 support service to provide a proposal to upgrade our router and whatever else is needed to propel the system. Both our lake building and pool building units have regular loyal guest followings. The lake building is closer to the lake. Thus, the name building. You can guess what the pool building is near. While both structures have interior corridors and central HVAC, bathrooms in the pool building are larger with Great Rooms and up featuring an extra vanity and dressing/closet area. We have excellent water pressure throughout and will begin the process of upgrading shower heads where necessary. Please thank your sister for the recommendation and come stay with us again soon.
Best Regards,
Dan

We were very pleased you found our Inn to be quiet and friendly. As you noted, the views from our Lake Building's double queen rooms are exceptional. Lake Tahoe Blvd. runs between the Inn and our beach. Thus, you can hear some traffic noise from these units. Regulars tell us its worth it due to the close proximity of the lake. King Great Rooms in our Pool Building sit back on our 6 acres about 50 yards and are very quiet. Summer is now in full swing in Lake Tahoe. Please come up and see us again soon.

Dan
