“Overpriced and Outdated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

We booked our room in Feb when the property was a Hilton Embassy Suites and were not aware that the owners are no longer associated with Hilton and had changed the name to the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. We would have appreciated an email notification of the change so that we would not have wasted time trying find a place that no longer existed.

The rooms are dark and outdated, the couch and bed are worn and the reception on the small CRT TVs is fuzzy.

On the plus side, the service was great, WIFI works well, happy hour was excellent and breakfast was above average.

This hotel is overpriced and in need of an upgrade

Had an awesome time. Weather was amazing. Slow weekend so mgr reception was practically empty. Loved hearing about the possible changes to the breakfast and mgr reception to come. Enjoyed having the pool to ourselves.. can't wait to return and glad all the perks of embassy have rolled over and are being improved. Kids loved seeing the turtle and fish. Food at echo was great too especially since the mgr reception was being hosted there temporarily. Wish we were still there but will be back soon!

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are the best if you can get them for a good price. otherwise they are in the process...

First of all, I was a little worried about staying at this hotel since it is no longer part of the Embassy Suites brand; however, our stay was very nice and comfortable. The buffet breakfast is a wonderful addition. Our 2 small children loved all the options: fresh fruit, different kinds of juices, fresh cooked eggs, potatoes, french toast, and more. In addition, snacks are offered from between 4:30 and 6: 00p.m. the perfect time to grab a quick bite.
The hotel staff was also very friendly and willing to help assist us with any of our needs. The concierge was great! He pointed out a wonderful beach we could take our small children to and we got to look at all the beautiful scenery along the way. (It was probably about a 40 minute walk to the beach, so a stroller would be advised if you have younger children, but the views could not be beat.)
We also dined at the cafe downstairs. The food was reasonably priced and they have a special for each day of the week. They rooms are very comfortable and our children loved that they had their own bed with their own television. The only negative I have on this hotel is that our bathroom was a bit outdated. It could use a new tub and tile. But, overall way worth the trip.

Our room was out of date with tub high sliding shower doors, to the 25 inch tube TV in the bedroom. The bed had been several years old, and very used. A few plus's of this hotel are: workout room, managers reception, and the made to order breakfast in the mornings. The hotel recently switched ownership, so the staff did seem confused on customer service.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, and far from elevator.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay with us during our transition to an independent property. Would like all the readers to know that our ownership group remains the same and we will operate as an independent property. In mid to late August this year we will be investing $5M - $7M to upgrade each of our 400 suites; including but not limited to: new carpet, case goods, 42 inch HD TV’s, bathroom upgrades, etc… Additionally, we now offer a daily breakfast special since the cooked-to-order omelets created long wait times and the lines caused negative feedback and we are using local vendors for various breakfast items. We are also making positive adjustments to our bedding / amenity packages to roll out with our new suites. Some items we have added are: WIFI has been upgraded to accommodate the many guests who desire to stream videos during their stay, new “Bath & Body” bathroom amenities have been to our standard suites, "Aroma Therapy" to the premium suites and "Bvlgari" amenities for the balcony and stateline suites. Stay tuned more is on the way and we will do our best to keep all our guests updated as we continually make progress with our favorable changes. Should other readers have questions, please send an email to: info@tahoeresorthotel.com .

We just stayed here over the weekend. They insist that they are going to give the hotel, formerly Embassy Suites, a more "local flavor". But, I think that means "cost cutting" in the reality. They no longer offer "breakfast made to order", but rather a traditional buffet of eggs and some type of meat (bacon or sausage, but not both). The pool seems to be a shade cooler than other pools we've experienced with Embassy. I know it is the off season in Tahoe, but man, this place was empty and it was somewhat depressing to only see a few people in the entire hotel. Parking is a rip off as there is free parking next doors (25 yards away). I would only stay again if rates were lower than most Embassy Suites, but at the current state, I think I would pass next time we go to Tahoe.

I think this hotel does exactly what most people need. The location to the gondola is excellent and the rooms are a good size and clean. This hotel is never going to be The Ritz but it is not trying to be.

Overall, would I stay again then definitely - yes!

I have to say first that I suspect that probably most of I have to say about this hotel probably was related to the hotel changing hands immediately after our stay. They were knocking off "Embassy Suits" sign as we were driving off. Now it is just called Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. In any case, you could tell they are trying to "save" on service. At breakfast fruits were just cantaloupes and watermelon. No bagels, and you had to beg them to get cream cheese, and the last couple of days they just said they had none. Snacks during the "Happy Hour" consisted of pretzels and popcorn. But at the same time you could get a lot of alcohol during the same "Happy Hour", since the only restriction was 2 drinks at a time. The room cleaning staff clearly did not care much. Every day room got cursory cleaning, some pieces of paper in one spot on the floor did not get touched by them all 5 days. During the stay they were removing Hilton branded iPod dock clock radios, replacing them with the $5 generic ones. It turns out they set the clock on them, but some had alarms turned on. Room next to us was empty that night. It took me 20 minutes to get someone to come out at midnight to kill the alarm going on full blast across the wall, which you could hear very well.
Again, I attribute these issues to the hotel changing hands. So I am leaving a neutral revue, in hopes it will get better once the dust settles.

Room Tip: Not on the top floors (varies by where you are in the hotel)
