This hotel has big tents set up outside for weddings and receptions that go untill 10:00 PM, and they are LOUD, LOUD, LOUD !!!! then after that you have to put up with the drunks until they pass out .The management could care less about the hotel guest, stupid way to run a hotel to say the least. THE ROOMS ARE VERY SMALL. THIS IS THE WORSE HOTEL I EVER STAYED AT!

Room Tip: Do your self a favor and stay elsewhere

We stayed at this resort for a family function. The resort is located right on the beach of South Lake Tahoe and is in a convenient location to walk to most things. Though this means that the resort is right on the busy main road. So if you have a room that faces south you’ll get that noise. We had a beach side king room. If you opt for a beach side room some things to consider. As to the rooms on the east end of the resort, yes do have a view but also a view of the parking lot and end of the dock, so it is noisy and less picturesque. Also there is really no shade as the patio areas are rather small. The rooms at the west end have trees outside their doors so that would be better. The rooms toward the center of the resort, especially on weekends will be affected by the venue area however there is a cut off for music etc at 10:00 pm. People on the ground floor cannot leave their patio doors open at night as the screens do not lock, which is a shame since the rooms can get a little stuffy and the through-the-wall A/C is loud. Also the plastic chairs provided on each patio often go missing as other people help themselves to them.

First and foremost the resort staff was excellent and helpful. The event planning, coordination and execution were very, very good and even the food at the event buffet was above expectations. Shame that could not be said for breakfast, which while served by a great staff, left a lot to be desired; coffee was good but food was mediocre. (Walk down to Café Artemis for breakfast instead.) The food at the pier was hit or miss and was definitely good when they got it right. Service was good in spite of them having to deal with an extremely slow kitchen and bar. Nice sunset views though. One note, if you’re an early riser and want to walk on the beach no coffee is available in the breakfast area until 7:00, the coffee shop across the street does not even open until 8:00 so you are left with the in-room coffee though it might wake up any other person sleeping in when you make it.

There are rentals of boats and other water sport equipment from the pier, lounge chairs available to guests from on-site staff. It is a shame that no dogs, picnicking or alcohol is allowed on the beach. Probably some bad apples spoiled it for others.

The resort appears to be an older resort that has for the most part kept up with maintenance and some upgrades. We found the beach side king room a bit small and cramped, there is no mini refrigerator, though there is a gas fireplace, which is a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and all linens were clean. There is a single service coffee machine with fresh coffee packets and limited cups for either coffee or water. The bathroom/closet area is cramped though serviceable for one person at a time. The sink is separate from the shower/toilet room (no bath tub) but the bathroom door must be closed to fully access the closet. The closest ice machine to use was constantly either out of ice or broken during out 4 day stay. The public restrooms in the lobby area were not kept as clean as they should have. Even first thing in the morning it was obvious that nothing had been done in a while. Other areas, like elevators were dingy. However the grounds were kept nicely and the pool area looked good.

There is parking for guests and you receive a parking pass for your dash. However, there is probably just enough parking places for registered guests and it was obvious from our vantage point overlooking the parking area near the pier that others come and park there to use the beach. I had seen a parking lot monitor a few times but he was there sporadically and conspicuously absent on the weekend, when parking was crazy. The construction next door made navigating the already narrow parking areas that much more difficult. When there is an event then any event guests who come from somewhere else all try and park in the hotel guest spots.

So overall it was fine but I am not sure it was the best value for the money spent; of course one must factor in resort and California prices. Luckily there are other great restaurants in the area but if you’re having an event, then it is probably a good choice.

It definitely had nowhere to go but up after the horrible reception desk and check in, but it did get better. We reserved a lake view room and I notified them we had one small, clean poodle. I received confirmation they received notice that we had a dog as their reservation site requests. Reservation says NOTHING about lake front rooms not being dog friendly rooms. So we arrive all smiles eagerly awaiting our beautiful room to be RUDELY told we weren't allowed in the lake view room with a dog. We had to have a bottom level room by the grass area. Then she basically called me a liar and said I didn't notify them we had a dog. I had the confirmation email to prove her wrong but was so upset, I couldn't find it right then. So we get to our room and all is well even though we couldn't see the lake. Our room was very nice, nice decor, bed comforter is in closed by sheets, which I love being a germ freak. Comfy beds even though they were only doubles. We had a little patio with chairs and our dog could do her business right outside on the lawn area. The really nice beach is a hop, skip, jump away and is wonderful for families, couples or singles. There's a restaurant right on the pier that has outdoor, dog friendly seating. The pool and hot tub area nice and gets cleaned daily. If you want morning coffee, you have to go to Starbucks in Safeway across the street. Rooms have individual wall a/c units that help drown out any noise. Customer service in this hotel is seriously lacking and needs to be remedied, but the location is so good on the beach, and the rooms clean and comfy, it was a good value for the money and we would return.

Room Tip: Travelers with dogs can't have lake view rooms. $20 per day for a dog.

My girlfriend and I chose the Beach Retreat for our anniversary. What an amazing property right on the Lake. The rooms were just as the website described them and in great condition with very comfortable bedding and many have balcony's overlooking the Lake. We went to the hotel bar and met Rob, a manager of the property. He took an immediate interest in why we were in town and offered numerous recommendations. Throughout the weekend Rob was very tentative and made sure that we were well taken care of by all of the other members of the staff. This type of service cannot be taught. We dined in at the Boathouse, a restaurant that is on a pier at the resort. The food was excellent and as an extra bonus we were able to watch the beautiful sunset over the mountains edge that Lake Tahoe is so known for. We will be sure to come back to the Beach Retreat on our next "retreat"!

Room Tip: Lakeview is the best Building C

I consider myself fortunate to have spent two nights at this resort. I can only wish that I wasn't traveling on business as I would have been happy to have taken advantage of the unlimited recreational activities this resort offers with a semi-private beach right out my guestroom door. The service and attention to detail with their newly renovated lobby and comfortable guestrooms (equipped with fireplace) really sells this resort. The restaurant in the pier called the Boathouse, was a nice treat and enjoyed great service and beautiful views from the balcony.

The location has a great view to the lake. The beach is near and tidy. Swimming near the beach is nearly impossible because of shallow and brown water. The hotel rooms are very small. The bathroom is tiny. Beds with linen and cushions are neat. We had good view to the lake.
Breakfast room absolute no charm. The elevator was the dirtiest we had on our long California trip.
At the moment there is a noisy construction besides the hotel

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must. Ask for room which is not affected by the construction besides. The owner sho...

We stayed at the hotel last week. What a perfect and beautiful location. The lakeside view rooms did not disappoint. Although the weather was not typical for August there was still plenty of fun to be had for this family of five. The breakfast at the tavern was perfect and the boathouse was an added bonus for live music, drinks and food. The staff was vey friendly and always willing to help.We are looking forward to going back.
