“very nice -- super convenient to Heavenly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2010

Looks like a little old motel that they spiffed up real good. Room was nice, bed very comfy. People were nice. Continental breakfast could have been better. 5 minute walk to Heavenly gondola.

968 Park Hotel has been redone by someone with an eye for style--reclaimed wood has been used to great effect in the lobby, the rooms, and even the elevator, there are two Ecosmart fireplaces, black and white photos of old motel signs, and "old" Tahoe grace the lobby and hallways, and the typical motel sink has been replaced by a charming white porcelain vessel with rustic fixture. It's in a great location--Walking distance to restaurants, cinema, Starbucks, and of course, the gondola for Heavenly ski resort. This was once a budget hotel--and at only $109 per night for two adults in a king room, continental breakfast and a glass of "welcome" wine included, I would say it still qualifies. Nice, thick cotton towels, the sheets and bedding are comfortable, and they use two sheets to wrap the comforter--something I think should be a law, not a choice (who wants to sleep with someone else's blanket under their chin--ICK). Some of the problems--unfortunately for me--are non-negotiable. The bathrooms are miniscule--with the vanity/sink in the main bedroom area--which is OK, but the fact that there is virtually NO WATER PRESSURE isn't! Don't expect to be able to enjoy a long, hot shower after skiing, or wash your long hair--the dribble that comes out of the shower isn't going to do it. We stayed in two different rooms, and the problem was there in both. THE NOISE LEVEL--partly due to completely rude and clueless guests (does anyone NOT realize when they scream and laugh at the top of their lungs in a hotel hallway that they are disturbing others?) and partly due to the obviously non-reinforced walls and floors--the people above us sounded like they were practicing clogging. Although the front desk staff (there are five total, we met them all) are nice enough, they do as little as possible to make your stay pleasant, i.e. there is no offer of help with luggage-not even a "let me get the door for you" or "may I hold the elevator?" they just sit behind the desk and continue to browse the internet while you huff and puff with your ski boots and bags. When the noisy clientele was mentioned to the evening staff, an apology was given, but no call made to the offending noise makers--we know as we could hear the telephone in their room when it rang--or did not ring, in this case. Although the hotel has--as I mentioned--two beautiful Ecosmart fireplaces, these are seemingly only lit when a guest asks--and although there are candles in the lobby, these too, are evidently only for display. I asked when the candles are lit, and one of the staffers responded with "on special occasions". Isn't my stay there a "special occasion"? It was for ME. The jacuzzi was not working the entire time we stayed (three nights) and although the sauna works, it needs a good twenty minutes to warm up--it would be nice to let your guests know this ahead of time. Lastly, a heads up to the management--the first morning we tried the pastries, and found them to be completely stale--we took one bite each, and tossed them, but the second morning completely different pastries appeared--these were fresh and delicious. We were told the pastries are delivered every morning, but someone is passing old stuff off as new.

Stayed at this hotel on a recent weeklong ski holiday in Tahoe. The hotel is located walking distance to the base of Heavenly's gondola and from the village at Heavenly, the Casinos and the Marriott (secret tip--you can check your skis at the Marriott's ski valet free of charge. They are located at the base of the gondola. The sign posted says you need to be a guest, but you don't really have to be. They're nice enough to take them, just be sure to tip!). The staff were all super friendly and helpful. We rented skis from the Powderhouse ski shop, which is also within walking distance of the hotel. Parking is free and plentiful. The hot tub leaves something to be desired (mostly bc it's inside), but is otherwise fine. The rooms are bare bones, but in good condition, clean and offer great eco-friendly products. It was a great place to stay with friends, I would step it up a notch if you are on a romantic holiday though...oh and they offered us wine or beer upon arrival at their small lobby bar and offer coffee, fruit and pastries every morning, which helps save a few pennies! Downside was there is no gym, but apparently they offer discount passes to a local gym.

This hotel has very nice decor, furniture, conveniently located, very attentive staff, simple breakfast, has most of the features of European B&B (only good cappuccino is missing)

Environmentally friendly with a rustic feel, this renovated standard motel is a cut above average. Room was very comfortable with great beds and cool bathroom fixtures. Can't beat the location - we parked our car when we got there and never needed it for the rest of our stay - walking distance to Heavenly Valley gondola, multiple restaurants, movie theater and other amenities (including casinos). Hotel staff was mostly friendly and helpful. "Breakfast" is pretty limited, just some fresh pastries and coffee, maybe some fruit, but enough to get you going in the morning. Appreciated the ski locker room, covered parking and large indoor hot tub. Would definitely stay here again.

The staff couldn't be nicer, the location is good, and the beds were nice, but I was disappointed with several things at the property, including the following: Parking spaces are very tight for anything but a compact car. We damaged our car against a concrete pillar trying to get out of our space. The room had no conveniently-located outlets where I could plug in my laptop or cell phone. The "desk" in the room was too tiny to be of use as a work area, the bathroom counter was so small we couldn't fit two toiletry cases on it, and the lowest setting of the heater in the room seemed to be 80 degrees - we all sweated the nights. Lastly, I appreciate the "green" theme, but the toilet paper was really rough and left me sore.

Second year we've stayed here for skiing. Fantastic place. Not luxury but a very intelligent/ecologically sensitive remodel of an old motel. Comfortable but unobtrusive lobby, very nice business center-common room, well-appointed guest rooms with nice lienens and cool furnishings, quiet, helpful and hospitable staff. Heating system is very quiet, vitually unnoticable. Nice spa area with sauna and jacuzzi (again, don't expect luxury), excellent massage (ask for Luisa - off the charts). For a grand total of $279 we stayed for three nights within easy walking distance of the Heavenly Valley ski lift to the Nevada side of the mountain. So we would heartily recommend this place
