“Customer service makes up for a lot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

We recently stayed at 968 Park and we were very satisfied. Per some of the other comments, this hotel is not fancy. There is no a/c, the rooms are fairly minimal, I couldn't find a hair dryer. However, the bed was comfortable enough, the shower had great pressure, and everything was CLEAN. I personally love that this hotel is GREEN, and am willing to make some small sacrifices for that. In addition, we had a dispute with our bill, and the hotel manager was very gracious and accommodating. The location is fabulous, the staff was all super nice. We would go back.

We only had to stay overnight in Lake Tahoe. Some of the big names were out of our way (Ritz Carlton), or overpried for a one-night stay (Westin), or both. We really did not where to stay, and some research made us think that 968 would be a good compromise : promise an upscale boutique hotel, be shy on pictures, display not chea prices, that's a tempting proposition.

We found out that this works within the hip philosophy of "Pay More, get Less"

We were surprised at the building. Looks like an old motel, with the whole of the first floor a parking lot. Nice welcome by knowledgeable, if over friendly attendants (grabbing my car keys on the counter while checking-in, and go Wow, I did not Hertz rented Mercedes SUVs). Elevator furnished with old wood planks. Drab corridors. And the room ...

Well, quite large actually. First thing you see in the hallway is a small sink, the only one. Door on the right leads to a small (very small) and underlit bathroom. Typical motel lay out. Huge bed, very comfortable. TV. And fans. 2 of them. Because what strikes you when you step in there is the heat. The cord of the biggest fan was too short to place it in front of the window, not that you can open a lot of it anyway. So we had a hot night, and I am only talking about the temperature, eventhough it was cold outside. Decoration is mostly wood planks.

And over and over the speech about carbon footprint. Gimme a break.

No breakfast on location. Massage, yes, but breakfast, no.

All this would be fine, if it did not sell for $199, partly paid in advance. This is at least somewhat overpriced. Nice concept would work better with less pretention. Oh, and no one thought to have different rates for those driving a Prius, or those parading in an Escalade -or an imported massive SUV like me.

Get real, guys.

From the website and photos, I expected a small, yet upscale "boutique" hotel. I was disappointed as it is a very bare bones hotel with very few amenities and no air conditioning. This wasn't a problem (at night) in September but I can't imagine staying here during the summer months. Our window had to stay open all night which was very noisy as our room faced the parking lot for the hotel/apartments next door.

Pros: Very clean, the staff was extremely nice, the beds were comfortable and it even had a small lobby bar

Cons: Very bare bones, no A/C, no "spa".....only a room labeled "massage room" and only an old box fan to cool the room down when it was hot during the day.

I expected something quite a bit more "upscale" from the website photos, room descriptions, and promotions for spa and massage therapy. But before the details, I will say overall that I liked it and enjoyed my stay there. It was laid back in a comfortable manner, and the staff was great. It was clean, and the location was perfect for our needs. The lobby bar was really very nice, easy going, and they serve little pizzas to order. I would stay there again, but I'd make sure I got a deal or a discount on the room, its quite pricey for what you get.

This used to be a typical South Shore Tahoe motel, in a location a block off the strip, with parking spaces for cars between the pillars on the ground floor, and 2 or 3 floors of rooms above the parking area. I actually remember it from years ago as a kid. Its been redone, using lots of recycled "distressed" wood in the lobby, halls and rooms.

There is a small pool tucked into a corner of the parking lot, with rather unusual poolside "beds" in addition to lounge chairs. The pool gets a nice ratio of sun and shade. It is several long blocks to the beach area that they refer to as their "private beach", I remember that too from my youth, a fenced beach area that many hotels and motels share as part of their room amenities.

The bar area in the lobby was very nice, it fitted our group well. A place to escape from each other, or gather before and after doing activities. Relaxed and comfortable, with little groups of seats that gave privacy as well as a feeling of being part of the group with other guests. Beer, Wine, Sodas and Water, and little pizzas you can order for a snack or light meal. They put out a small breakfast area, coffee and tea, juice and some sort of bread/cake. They avoid bottles, so they can be "green", except for the vending machines hidden away in certain places.

The staff were really great, very friendly and helpful. They helped us with dinner reservations, directions, towels, and beverages at the bar. One or two people at the front desk do it all. It is walking distance to the casinos, and to the Harvey's Amphitheatre, that was nice we were there for a concert.

The fans in the guest rooms only work if the lights are on, that may be "green" but it was very annoying on a hot, still August night to not be able to run a fan. They bring in someone from outside to do any massage/spa requests. There is a sauna room on the ground floor.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed about the same, maybe ask to be on the back side away from the street.

968 is a lovely small, clean hotel in South Lake Tahoe. The staff are super friendly and helped us with all of our questions, and went out of their way to help us.
The design of the hotel is interesting and there is some beautiful woodwork to be seen.
The hotel has a sauna and pool should you not want to go to the lakeside beach (hotel guests have private access to the beach).
A very pleasant stay and definitely recommended!

Stayed here for two nights in September and really enjoyed it. Really comfy beds, helpful staff, and an overall great vibe. Good location in town-- a short walk from the lake, Heavenly Village, and the casinos. Will definitely stay here again!

My friend and I stayed for three nights in early September and had an exceptional experience. Being very ecology minded the concept of the hotel was very appealing to us. The beds and linen were the most comfortable I have ever slept in in a hotel setting. The staff was sooo helpful and friendly - truly customer service oriented. The pass for the beach was great and all the recommendations they gave us were spot on. Even though no air conditioning the room was comfortable and we got the best sleep ever. I would easily recommend this hotel over the chain hotels seen in the area. Brandon, the manager, went over and above for us and the desk staff, especially Ashley, were all top notch. Thanks for a wonderful stay!!!
