“Great vibe and amazing team”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Turtle cove is the place to be if you are a surfer and/or enjoy Yoga. Location is close to Tofinho point and the property has its own yoga studio. Turtle Cove just got a new management couple - Dominique and Tyrone. Dominique does amazing Yoga classes and Tyrone is a talented singer and brilliant guitarist and "shows off" every now and then around the camp fire (#nottobemissed).
The managers and other staff (Armando and Caesar) take great care of every guest. We stayed in the dorms which are rather simple but gives you everything you need at an unbeatable price and the crowds staying there are really fun. It is a 10-15min walk to the center/market and 10min walk to the beach. I would definitely stay there again and can recommend it!

Turtle Cove is a hub of happenings. My husband and I hosted a winter "double bill weekend retreat" in Yoga dance and Drumming. The reception cum/bar/dining/lounging/chill out is a grand thatched lapa with indigenous ironwood beams and Mali architectural yin yang waves - the drumming sessions in the courtyard around a fire under the stars a perfect setting.
In a tree-full garden the charming yoga studio is organically crafty, intimate yet spacious and serene. Resident yoga teachers keep the spirit of yoga alive all seasons. The menu has a varied assortment also suitable for a vegetarian, rare in Mozambique. Local staff, Armando and Caesar, were exceptionally friendly with helpful tips on our stay.
A 15min shortcut to the beach down rural lanes is a pleasant walk in the temperate weather - Tofo is an excellent winter break-away from colder climates. You can swim every day in warm blue sea.
We were also in Tofo to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. For a romantic reclusive seaside setting we hired the self catering “Beach house” from Turtle Cove management. Perfect! Set on a dune at Tofinho beach it has a wonderful view with an unspoilt beach down the garden path.
The market is a pulsing colourful meeting place for all tribes of people. Coconuts and cashews, fresh baked bread and delicious fruit. Fish lovers, like my husband, find a feast in every restaurant. For the discerning the Liquid diving centre has a Cafe which serves delectable food.
Tofo mellowed us out and filled us with sunshine. Adeus. We hope to be back for more. Obrigada Nelia. Ushka Devi.

I recently hosted an eight day yoga retreat at Turtle Cove, Tofo, I loved it.
Such a charismatic venue.
The owners and staff are very welcoming and accommodating making my experience one I'll never forget.
The custom built yoga studio offers a unique and soulful ambience, which creates harmony and a sense of peacefulness, a delight for any yogi.
Don't expect 5 star .... it is Mozambique after all.
Rooms are clean, comfortable and basic, serviced on request.
The food in my opinion is the best you'll find in Tofo, from fresh delicious sushi to the best garlic rolls you've ever had, they are more than happy to accommodate you're dietary needs, so speak up.
I'm defiantly planning my return.

The atmosphere of the place is very relaxing, with a oriental touch. I could spend afternoons hanging out at bar area, swinging on the hammock, or in the garden, next to swimming pool. The rooms are clean and preety. Stuff very friendly. The only minus is that it is quite far away from the beach or tofo "center". But actually it did not bother me too much. I like to be active on the holidays, so a short walk was perfect! i would definatelly recommend place is you are looing for the relax vibe.

Came here seeking refuge from bedbugs at another hostel in town. No bedbugs here! Found a cheaper, larger, cleaner, and more comfortable room with two fans and a huge mosquito net. A little further from the town center, but worth the walk as there isn't loud music keeping you up until three in the morning. Still close to the beach - unless you can't manage to walk 10 minutes down the road. The bar has good, affordable food, wifi, and a friendly staff. Ask about diving packages - they have a relationship with Liquid Adventures in town.

Turtle Cove is a wonderful little hotel. We stayed in a small 4-plex and there are larger and smaller options, plus camping. Nice, but small, pool that was super refreshing, very good food in the resturant and a fun bar. Tons of character. A couple of downsides, the beach was a good 20 minute walk which was challenging on a hot day - uphill and very dusty. Also, there is no door on the bathroom area. It's kind of an open air concept which can be a problem if you are shy.
The walk into town was a workout, which was fine for us, but might not suit everyone. We had a little veranda to sit out on, but had to steal chairs from the pool. Other folks brought their own chairs. We also brought our own travel fridge/cooler and they were going to charge us 10R a day to plug it in, but we complained and they dropped the charge. Also, be prepared for putting down a damage deposit, which they will return when you check out. I think it was around 500M.

It is very very very far from the beach, not really walking distance, especially during hot days. You have to drive every time to go to the beach or other places to eat.

The came site is a mess, and not layed out right. Which caused parking and camping issues.
Showers were never cleaned.
Bring own toilet paper as they dont provide that. Also no soap to wash your hands. Eweee.

Sometimes they didnt even have large 2M beer. I mean its one of the most common things people drink. So i fealt a lack of planning by owners and mangement.
Not once did they have prawns, yet its on menu. One night we wanted to stay in. And they had ....
No fish. No calamari and no prawn. Bad planning yet again.

Very noisy at night. Dogs barking every night and fighting frequently at night. No one does anything about this. Very Loud music coming from Mosambeat next door until 2am. Owner does not want to do anything about this. Also other music close by only stopping at 6am. I thought for a yogo retreat place it would be rather peaceful. It is not.

Barmen are very friendly. Which is the only good thing about turtle cove.

I love Tofo and would go back in heart beat... but will look for somewhere else to stay. I wont recommend this to anyone.
