“So so relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2010

We stayed here for the first 4 nights of our Bali Honeymoon.
The 3 hour drive from the airport is worth it for the welcome ritual alone, the aches and pains from almost 24hours of travel soon forgotten. The resort is very well laid out, with stunning views over the sea. Our room was immaculate, the food delicious, the activies well thought out, the spa treatments amazing but what really made this place stand out for us was the staff. Every single staff member we came into contact with was so kind, considerate and helpful and they really made our stay memorable. As it was our honeymoon we were presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers, the extra efforts were really appreciated. The hotel was never crowded, often we would have the pool to ourselves.

The wife and I wanted our first holiday this year to be somewhere completely relaxing and afer scouring the Internet, we found Spa Village inTembok, Bali and thought we'd look into it. The website and reviews here definitely sold it for us so we went ahead and booked our trip out there for 10 nights. Getting there was a long long trek, it took 15 hours by flight and when we landed another 3 hour drive awaited us to actually get us to the resort. By the time we eventually got there, we were totally shattered but then we were welcomed with a wonferful ritual of feet washing, neck/shoulder massage and a ice cold towels and refreshing drinks. While we relaxed the hotel reception took care of all the check-in business. We stayed in the Kamar rooms, which is their first tier of room and it was lovely and comfortable, big comfy bed, nice bath/shower and we were even supplied with guest attire ( like a pyjama set ). So you dont really need much apart from your swimming kit. The guest attire is washed every day so there is always a new/ fresh pair waiting. The rooms dont have a tv, but they do have an iPod dock, so take yours along for music. The food at the restaurant is spa cuisine, so it is very healthy and the ingrediants are all natural and locally sourced so you can be sure that you'll be eating healthy. The resort pool and gym is a little small, but with only 30 rooms at the resort this isn't that much of an issue. We had a complete itiniterary for our stay, which included spa treatments and creative activities like drawing and wood carving and after a few days we found our selves at one with nature and totally relaxed. The people are so friendly and they make you feel so welcome its unbelieveable. We would easily say that this is the appeal of this place.

All in all, if you want a holiday of total relxation then this is the place to go, from the food, to the people and activities. Highly recommended, cant wait to go again someday.

We stayed one night in this hotel, it was part of a tour we had organised round the island.
The facilities are good. However, it is a "healthy" hotel: no internet, no TV, no smoking (only in the tiny private beach they have), no drinks served after restaurant closes at about 9pm.
And this hotel is in the middle of nowhere.
When we arrived, we were shown round the hotel and welcomed to our room. We were handed a letter which contained an "itinerary" for the following day: yoga at 11am, writing at 12, painting at 1pm, etc.
We totally ignored the itinery and went out on our day excursion. When we came back in the afternoon, we learned about a "star gazing" event in the evening. My husband is a keen amateur astronomer so we thought we should check it out.
The event consisted of laying on the lawn with headphones playing some new wave music while looking at the stars. Not what my husband had hoped for, being the first time in the southern hemisphere.
Anyway, we did our own star gazing and thanks to an iPhone application, we found the centre of the galaxy!
The food was great. During dinner we were delighted with the chaka dance, great entertainment... not sure if suitable during dinner especially when I was facing the opposite way!
The sea is ever so calm in Tembok. However, my husband got deep cuts in hands and feet trying to get on the sea. Definately recommend wearing swiming shoes.
Overall, the hotel is great if you are into all the healthy super chill out stuff they offer... not for us I am afraid :(

My partner and I stayed here for 6 days in January and it was a perfect retreat from real life.
The transfer from the airport is over 3 hours long, and the driver goes particularly fast over the windy roads. While the scenery is beautiful around the island, we did end up feeling slightly sick from the journey!
Arriving at the hotel you receive a foot massage and refreshing drink, which for us was particularly needed given we had been travelling for over 24 hours to get there! The staff are beyond fantastic and have a way of making you feel like you are the only guest there. Throughout the whole holiday they take the time to cater to your every whim. We stayed in the garden suite, which was of ample size and wonderfully decorated. Everything is perfectly clean and the staff leave personal touches such as running flower baths, towel decorations, sweets etc. each night.
The hotel do provide programmed activities but we chose to just go to the spa each day. I advise you to try the facial, which is one of the best i've ever had, and to avoid the wraps - far less enjoyable!
The food was fantastic. Yes there is not much variation in the menu, but it is of very high quality and everything is delicious. Also it is very health concious and there isn't really any options for snacking during the day.

My few negative points on the hotel.
It is very isolated. Do not go expecting to have a "busy" holiday. This resort is about relaxing.
The beach is volcanic sand. People lie by the pool, not on the beach, which is very rocky and you need to wear crocs to go walking. Saying that the pool is large, always clean and never busy.
The weather. Do not go in the rainy season. We went for the first week in January, in spite of the warnings and had about 8hours of sunshine in 6 days - no exaggerations.

On the whole, a fantastic 5 star hotel perfect for a couple of solo traveller looking to completely unwind.

I dont know where to start but i will try...

My wife and i stayed here over xmas and new year 2009/2010

I read all the few reviews on here before we went and all is true and its difficult to mention every good thing about why you should stay at this hotel as there are so many and trust me there are alot!!

Transfer

we pre-booked this with the hotel and were greeted as if we were very important and this made great start to a our break.

Note:
its not a short journey or even a smooth one!!
the hotel is around 3 hours from the airport and you have to climb a mountain and go back down again to get there...
the road is very windy and can make you feel sick so try to sleep or ask the driver to have frequent breaks.

Location

The hotel is not near anything tourist like it is the real bali at it raw sight...the nearest shopping area is over an hour away and the main places such as ubud or kuta is over 3 hours away but this could be good thing as it was for us.

The Hotel

We were greeted by staff and given a massage with drink to welcome us to the resort and this was really nice.

We were then shown around the resort whilst our bags were taken to our room for us.

This place isnt too big that you can get lost but not so small that you get bored.

There is wireless internet in the lobby which is always handy.

The Room

The rooms are very well presented and cleaned regularly.

The rooms do not have televisions and we did read this before we went so we took our laptop with a few dvd's just incase we got bored.

Beds are very big and comfy.

The bathroom is also spacious but if i was to be really fussy then the shower could be upgraded otherwise faultless.

The Beach

This is not a golden sandy beach where you can sunbathe its a black sand beach.

The Restaraunt

Now you have to remember this is a health orientated resort so everything is fresh or mostly healthy.

There are many options for food and the chef Danny is very accomadating and can tweak things to suit you if need be.

But as its so health concious you wont get a spicy curry or any sizzling kebabs or anything like that.

Fresh fruit/veg/meat/herbs is very much the theme here and we did start to get bored of the menu after a few days as the breakfast doesnt really change and lunch is also the same daily apart form a change in pasta of the day.

Dinner is always different and this we looked forward to every day.

This also made us realise how unhealthy our diet probably is but it gave us a detox so we were happy.

Activities

Now the hotel makes a great effort to make sure there are plenty of things you can do
we were give a itinery when we arrived and at first we thought we didint really want to do any of it and just relax but after seeing and talking to others we had a go at some of them a enjoyed them all.

We went on a sunrise cruz at 5:30am which was my favourite as we saw dolphins playing and this made the whole trip worth while!!

We tried jamu making, wood carving, cooking, starlight gazing on the pool...

The pool is in great location right next to the beach and nearly makes up for the black sand.

If you need to go shopping or eat somewhere different or just want to see other parts of bali then it can easily be arranged with reception staff and you can have driver for the whole day or even few hours to take you wherever you like.

The Service

For me this was the best part of the hotel as the staff go so far to make you feel welcome and as mentioned in earlier reviews nothing is too much for them to do and always at hand.

There are so many things they do to make your stay a special one..there is no point in me listing these as it would spoil it for you to stay there.

The Spa

This is top notch and the treatments a very proffessional.

This place is for solo travellers, couples and small groups who want to relax and unwind and enjoy a top spa.....under 16s are not allowed.

we had a great time here and i highly reccomend this place as it seems to be new on the map at this level and wants to stay there.

In comparison its a mini Datai in langkawi!!!

Good luck to the staff there and we hope to return one day.

Stayed here for 5 nights after a spell at Jimbaran Bay in the south and 3 days touring central Bali by jeep. Last time on the north coast of Bali was over 20 years ago, and it remains pleasantly the quieter, less hurried and more scenic part of the island. This hotel makes great effort in everything it does. The spa treatments are thoughtful and the staff are eager to please. Service is very good, although the staff are somewhat inexperienced. The surroundings, especially the pool, are just delightful - try out the 'stargazing' experience floating on a waterbed in the pool at night listening to chill-out music on an ipod! It was a highly relaxing experience, especially after a glass of wine. Food was of a high standard throughout. Beach is the usual black sand of the north coast, and the shoreline is very stony - difficult to walk into the water and to get out again - diving boots or wet shoes recommended. Lots to see in the local area and excellent snorkelling and diving about 30 mins away at the wreck of the Liberty ship - the hotel can arrange a trip but if you have your own transport iits better to go by yourself and hire kit in a local diving shop. We would definately go back to this hotel if we wanted a peaceful and relaxing holiday with the attractions of Bali on our doorstep. We came away feeling absolutely rejuvenated.

I agree with most of the very positive comments on this thread.
If you like it quiet , this is the place to stay in Bali !
The architecture of the buildings are nice with the palm-roofs.
The swimming-pool and surroundings are one of the best I have ever seen.
The scenery with the black bleach is amazing.
Danny the cook is a golden nugget for this hotel. Congratulation !
The breakfast, lunch and dinner was very, very good,
the spa was also very good, the rooms as well.
This is one of the hidden gems on this planet, we will be back if they will
get ride of the quack-quack at nights from these frogs...indeed, we always sleep
without AC so we had two shorter nights than usually because of the frogs!
