“A piece of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

After 10 days in UBUD we went at Cili Emas, on the North cost of Bali, in the small town of Tejakula. We had a single bungalow, perfect for a couple, with a very confortable bed. Cili Emas is a small and wonderful resort, with a very attentive staff. The owners Nicole and Jurgen and their team are always there to help and make your journey memorable, and Terry will for sure put a smile on your face. The food was excellent and fresh, the chef is very creative, with a unique touch for blending international and Balinese flavors. Dinner time, wich is communal, is a good way to meet the other guests and make new friends. We rent a scooter directly at the resort and visit Tejakula and the surroundings. The waterfall is a must see. You can also spend your days relaxing at the resort, looking at the fishermen on the beach, having a good massage and laying around the wonderful pool. We enjoy very much our stay, almost didn't want to leave this little piece of paradise.

My family and I had a really relaxing stay for 5 days at Cili Emas. The room (large family bungalow) was beautifully designed and appointed and very comfortable. With three bedrooms my kids had a room each which they loved. The food was excellent with a mix of Balinese and international dishes served in a communal setting. We met lots of lovely people in this way which is always fun. The owners (Nicole and Jurgen) and the staff were always very helpful with any requests we had. The village of Tejakula was lovely and friendly too so we spent time wandering around watching the fishermen, their families and others go about their daily lives. We also visited Singaraja, a bustling market town, some temples Amed for snorkelling and the waterfall located close to Tejakula. All were great fun and easily organised by the staff at Cili Emas or in town. We had lots of fun here and we hope to visit again.

I have been there last august 2012 with my boyfriend. We spent 3 incredible days in Cili emas.
Cili emas its a really hidden gem in the north of BALI.
We had a cozy room super clean and tidy.We had a good and professional massage. We had 3 lovely dinners and 3 superb breakfast - the best we had in the whole 3 weeks Indonesian's trip - though were mainly not local food.
The stuff is friendly and a good remark is for the driver who drove us up to the resort. An extremely friendly and pleasant person that made our "long" journey a sweet one.
If you are in Bali - Cili Emas is a must - it is the place where to go to discover the real BALI and to rest and find peace.

Room Tip: For breakfast - Do not forget to ask for BANANA PANCAKES - Rent a scooter to move around - the tra...

Cili Emas is beautiful and the food is incredible (although not Indonesian). It is extremely quiet and remote and a walk into the local village shows Real Bali. There are two lovely dogs Terry and Elvis and some friendly ginger cats. There are very strict rules such as no running in the garden, no jumping in the pool and no ball games. I wish I had known this before I booked. We felt very uncomfortable and felt the other (mainly German) guests were unhappy with our children so it was not at all relaxing. We cut our visit short and are now in Amed where are kids can be kids. But for people looking for a quiet holiday with wonderful food and mainly German company in a stunning part of Bali, Cili Emas would be perfect.

If you want something simple but stylish with a lovely atmosphere this is the right spot. It is out of the way but for us that made it all the more appealing. The owners are lovely and interesting to talk too they bring their diverse talents in design, cooking, building, yoga etc... to create a fantastic resort. Although ideal for couples we found that the owners and staff were fantastic with our children and the group dinners were very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this resort if you are looking for something unique and special without you feeling uncomfortable about the level of luxury you are enjoying.

Room Tip: Go for the traditional huts at the back.

Good place to relax.
Best massage ever, great food in the evening.
And we did enjoy there brand new bikes, thanks for that.
Its great to have your own bikes in Bali. But do not forget 80Km takes 3 hours.

My husband and I have recently returned from a 5 night stay at Cili Emas. Our holiday started well with our driver waiting at the airport with bottles of water for us in hand, ready for the 3 ½ hour drive to the resort.

Once you get out of the Kuta chaos, the drive to Cili Emas goes relatively quickly, with lots to see on the way. At the resort, we were greeted by Nyoman (Manager and cook) and given the run down on our room and the meals.

Our room was small and basic but we were located at the front of the resort which was wonderful. We spent a lot of our time sitting on the verandah, listening to the waves crashing on the beach only 50m away. Meeting the kids on the beach in the afternoon was also a highlight.

The pool area and massage pavilion are beautifully presented and very relaxing. I had 3 massages whilst there, my husband had two.

We hired the kayaks one morning and paddled up the coast. This was a great experience especially first thing in the morning before the wind picks up. We also did the sunrise boat trip with a local fisherman. From the ocean, you can see the full extent of the rugged terrain behind Cili Emas. An amazing view to be seen.
We visited the salt production area on the beach north of Cili Emas (about a 15 min walk) and even walked up to the early morning market one day to have a look.

The staff at Cili Emas are wonderful, especially Nyoman and the kitchen staff. My husband and I are not vegetarians, but the food was so tasty and plentiful, we didn’t miss meat at all.

The communal dining has its pros and cons. At times we did struggle as four out of the five nights we were there, we were the only non-German speaking guests. If you are on the quiet side, you might need to put yourself out there if find yourself in the same situation as us. We did however meet some wonderful people and made friends that we will stay in contact with. We made the most of the experience and came away feeling very positive.

This was my 12th visit to Bali and my husbands 8th but our first to Tejakula and we will definitely go back.
If you still love Bali but had enough of the touristy areas, then this part of the island is worth a look. Tejakula is a quiet town. After three walks through the town, at no point were we asked if we wanted to buy something. Bliss!!!.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs as the animal noises at night might keep...
