“A great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

A great bed and breakfast near to Ripon. Lovely spacious rooms in a peaceful environment. We stayed in a ground floor room in a separate building to the main house. Maggie has lots of good suggestions for where to eat.
We usually prefer hotels and were not sure about staying in a B&B but we were pleasantly surprised.
Breakfast was really nice with lots of local produce.
The only downside to the stay was the rough drive to the farmhouse, lots of potholes, which is not good with a low-bodied car!

We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay in our farmhouse B&B and hope that after your positive comments you will consider staying in bed and breakfast accommodation again and not just hotels. We are a farmhouse B&B and set back from the road, in a lovely quiet spot in open countryside, however, as you say, our drive was a bit rough at the time of your stay. My farmer husband has now filled in the pot holes and although I cannot claim it is totally smooth, it is now much improved.

Mallard Grange is ideally placed not far from the A1 and virtually on the doorstep of Fountains Abbey. Maggie Johnson who runs Mallard Grange is a little dynamo of local knowledge, fun and inspiration. Her breakfasts are wonderful - don't make too many plans for lunch !

We had a lovely stay at Mallard Grange, just right for my elderly Mum.
Our room was perfect, ground floor with comfort all around, delicious breakfasts surrounded by people from around the world, conversation never stopped, an amazing start to the day.
Maggie was so welcoming and always there to help and advise as to what to do and where to go.
Would definitely recommend Mallard Grange and am really looking forward to staying again in the not too different future.
Thank you to Maggie and everyone who looked after us so well.

We had a two day stay last week, having found Mallard Grange from the Internet. The information received from Maggie prior to our visit was very informative, Directions clear and easy to follow.
Our welcome was very warm with tea in the sitting room, any further questions answered fully and our room was large and comfortable, with a fabulous King size bed. A shower room that was warm and very well appointed. Everything was very clean and positively sparkled.
We were advised that breakfast was taken at a communal table, and although my wife had slight reservations , as did the wife of another couple staying at the same time, the conversation was funny, interesting and would have gone on longer if Maggie hadn't had to remind guests it was "check -out "time!
We come from a rural area and were very taken with the cows and young calves opposite our room. I was counting the calves frequently to see if another had been born. Lovely to see them.
As I don't live via my phone, or Wifi, I didn't miss it. If it is important to you then don't go to a lovely farm environment , and let those who really enjoyed themselves do that.
We intend to return as soon as is possible.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent

We had a wonderful stay at Mallard Grange. Our room was one of the two outside rooms and it was huge. We had a large very comfortable bed with nice linens. The room also has a sofa on the other end and a dressing table for the ladies. It was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, and stocked with everything one could possibly need. My husband raved about the shower head and we had plenty of hot water. We did not hear a single noise from the farm animals even though two calves were born that night. We are American and we met another couple from Scotland at tea. They were delightful and we visited in the "parlor" for over an hour. Breakfast is huge. You can have anything you want. Unlike another poster who did not like to eat at one table, we enjoyed our breakfast of six. Maggie practically had to run us out of there.

A perfect Farmhouse B & B in deepest Yorkshire. We had two brilliant nights at Mallard Grange - the sky was clear and there is no light pollution so perfect for getting a stiff neck looking at the Milky Way! The room (in the main farmhouse) was large and very comfortable with lovely views and catered for all our needs - including some we didn't realise we had! Breakfast was a real feast of wonderful local food which we enjoyed at our leisure. We were there for a wedding in the next village and Maggie was so accommodating about us staggering in at some unearthly hour. Can't recommend it highly enough. On the other hand if you don't like cows, sheep or tractors and want super fast wi fi and mobile phone connectivity in every room you would probably be better off at The Holiday Inn, Harrogate!

Room Tip: Inside rooms have wi fi if you really cant manage with out!

We had a 2 night stay at Mallard Grange in July 2013. We stayed in one of the two outside rooms, which was roomy, very clean and had everything we could have asked for. The breakfast was excellent, although we are not fans of sitting around one table with all the other guests (being anti-social)! Being on a farm, we expected and got, some cow noises during the night, but nothing to keep us awake much. There was no wi-fi in the outside rooms but if needed we could have used the dining room.

Room Tip: The outside rooms are good, although no wi-fi.
