“Mallard Grange A Yorkshire Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

One of the best B&Bs we have ever experienced. A quiet and tranquil location with superb views but equally handy for any of the main tourist towns and attractions in North Yorkshire. A warm and friendly welcome, large well furnished and decorated room, spotless and modern bathroom, comfortable big bed, super breakfast and extremely helpful owner who goes out of her way to make you welcome, likes to chat but also knows when to leave you to your own devices. I would recommend this place to anyone and will return if we are back in the area sometime.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We stayed at Mallard Grange for four nights at the beginning of December when the weather outside was very cold. However, our well furnished spacious room was lovely and warm with very comfortable beds and pillows. We were so well provided for and could ask for nothing more.
Maggie likes a challenge at breakfast and will offer her guests a choice from a vast range but I found her simple poached eggs and fried bread in the 'full english' the best ever.
She also has lots of helpful advice for guests like us who know nothing much about the area of the Dales.
The fabulous Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Gardens are less than two miles away and are free to members of the National Trust and English Heritage.

My husband and I stayed at Mallard Grange for three nights recently. Tasteful, restful accomodations, excellent breakfast, and a warm and welcoming hostess in Maggie Johnson. We could not have been happier or more comfortable. Fountains Abbey, a National Trust property and once the largest abbey in Europe, is barely a stone's throw away. Don't miss it, or the free guided tour.

Well, what can I say that all the other "5 star" reviewers haven't?
Only that I can only agree with them wholeheartedly!

This was my second two night stay and once again found everything exemplary.
Maggie is a superb host whilst Charles has time to chat to you, even though he's running a very busy farm.

The breakfast is excellent with a huge choice of quality food.
Copious amounts of fresh farmhouse toast and "proper" coffee to go with the marvellous selection of preserves.

One of the reviewers mentioned "attention to detail", this is what gives Mallard Grange its deserved status.

Reading the previous reviews gives you some insight as to why your stay with Maggie and Charles at Mallard Grange will be cherished.

Best wishes
Paul King

We took 3 rooms for a couple of nights so the family could congregate from different corners of the UK to celebrate a special birthday.

Rooms are gorgeous - well appointed, comfortable, warm, cosy.

Working farm location is totally charming.

Breakfast was cracking - really tasty and loads of choice.

Maggie the landlady-come-hostess really is stellar. Couldn't do enough for us.

Loved it and didn't want to leave!

What makes this B&B outshine most of the rest? Maggie. The warmth of her personal welcome to her home, her jolly and chatty personality, her enthusiasm for making her business a success whilst appearing to be doing it all for love. And also ..... Very comfortable room with all the resources one would hope for - a choice of teas (Taylor's of Harrogate, of course), 'proper' biscuits, pampering toiletries, information on places to visit and eat at, a television that works, etc. Breakfast - maybe the best anywhere ever - wonderful local produce, well cooked to order. Whilst one's fellow guests round the breakfast table must be pot luck, Maggie's introductions help to break the ice, and there is always much to learn from the experienceof others. (We managed lively discussion on Scottish devolution/independence and the US Presidential elections.) And the area is full of lovely and fascinating places to visit. Besides glorious Fountains Abbey on the doorstep, there is Ripon - the miserichords in teh Cathedral are a wonder - oh and be sure to be in Ripon market place at 9 pm. Only minor criticism - prefer a duvet to blanket.

As we arrived Maggie came out of the farm house to welcome us warmly by name. She took us straight to our room in the converted barn. We had a lovely room with a fantastic shower in the ensuite, tea and coffee making facilities and shared a fridge with the room next door. Maggie invited us to go over to the farmhouse as soon as we had settled in where she served us tea and homemade biscuits and provided information about places to visit and suggestions about where we might go to find dinner.
The breakfast was a traditional full breakfast using local Yorkshire produce, served around a large table which seated eight people. Maggie introduced everyone by name and ensured that the conversation flowed once breakfast had been served to everyone.
Overall, a fantastic B and B and if we ever return to the Ripon area we will definiltely stay at Mallard Grange again.
