“Birthday Break in Ripon”

Friendly warm welcome, charming setting. Lovely room with very good breakfast, with good range of some unusual seasonal jams Very well placed for visiting Fountains Abbey and to enjoy some lovely Yorkshire scenery. Well worth visiting.

Visiting relatives in Ripon, we stayed for two nights at The Old Coach House. We booked a double deluxe room, very smart, very clean and a really nice en-suite shower, particularly liked the feather pillows. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide choice and beautifully cooked. We were well looked after by Jackie and Amy. One very minor problem, we sleep with windows open and the fountain outside was a bit noisy at night. Apparently it is on a time switch which failed the first evening but a quick text to Jackie and it was turned off. A great b&b, we will definitely stay there again.

I would have to say this is the best b&b we have ever stayed in, the attention to detail was unbelieveable, the cleanliness of the bedroom & the breakfast room was emaculate. We stayed 4 nights while visiting our son and were sorry to leave. We will definately visit this b&b again,

My wife and I have just spent 2 very enjoyable nights in The Old Coach House.

We stayed in the most expensive room which had a very comfortable, super kingsize bed, 2 comfy arm chairs, large flat screen TV, tea & coffee making facilities, fridge (with some water and milk in), DAB radio, safe, a bowl full of fresh fruit (nice touch) and massive oak beams, adding to the character.

There is a separate en-suite bathroom with toilet, bath/shower and sink.

There is no mobile signal there but there is free WiFi. Unfortunately, we found it to be a bit flaky - we kept dropping the signal despite going outside to connect initially (as we were advised)

We had a couple of minor gripes with the room: -

- there is a small skylight window which lets in loads of light through the day, but it could really do with a blackout blind for night time. (there is a blind which pulls over it but it lets in way too much light for us as we are light sleepers)
- The plughole in the bath is not very water tight and lets the water leak out. I run a bath and left it cooling whilst I finished watching something on TV. When I went to take the bath, it was virtually empty and needed running again!!

The bedrooms overlook the courtyard which is lovely, with a fountain in the centre and the separate breakfast room to one side of it.

Parking is great, with plenty of off road spaces.

The Old Coach House is about 4 miles from Ripon and the local taxi (A & B) charges £7.50 each way which can add quite a cost to your night out.

The Old Coach House makes a fantastic base as there is so much history in and around Ripon and is well worth a visit.

Would we stay at The Old Coach House again and do we recommend it? Absolutely.

We travelled North to attend a Classic car club event in Knaresborough and also to visit relatives in Ripon and Brayton; discovering our usual accommodation at Malton was full, Late Rooms came to the rescue with the Old Coach House.
The location is perfect at around 6 miles North West of Ripon off the A61 in the pretty village of North Stainley.
Parking is spot on if you have a classic as it's secluded from the road by a hedge so feels very secure.
Everything has really been said in all the five star reviews written here so all I can do is echo the views of previous guests.
The property is just beautiful with it's secluded courtyard, fountain and foliage, not that we had much time for relaxing on our schedule.
The rooms are immaculate , tastefully restored to retain the original beams and have a real quality hotel feel about them. With virtually no mobile signal, the free wifi and landline (operated on an 'honesty' basis, very refreshing) was invaluable. especially with aged parents to keep in touch with.
The staff are lovely, very helpful at all times and breakfast was fabulous - I really ate too much but what am I gonna do?

The easy option for dinner is the Stavely Arms opposite with a good menu, great food and staff. It just needs the over bright lighting sorting out. The Coachhouse does has an evening meal menu, we'll try that next time, it looked very good.

Although not cheap it represents good value because the quality is top notch.
The Old Coach House is now firmly at the top of our favourite places to stay, we will be back.

Room Tip: I can't imagine any of the rooms are less than excellent from what we saw

We stayed two nights at the Old Coach House. The room was enormous and beautifully appointed. Great bathroom and very comfortable bed, everything spotless. Friendly, welcoming staff but plenty of privacy too. Breakfasts were a real highlight, everything you could want and more. Location is convenient for Ripon and Fountains Abbey, good offroad parking. The pub opposite is also lovely. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we'll plan to visit again!

Stayed 2 nights in August and found everything to be very good .Accommodation is top class, breakfast plentiful and cooked really well. Great walking nearby and handy for almost anywhere in the dales or Vale of Mowbray. Staff were fantastic . The pub over the road is good . If you fancy something with a touch of class try this .

Room Tip: Try the wine shop in Masham
