“What a Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2007

My husband found the Old Coach House after much searching looking for a hotel or B & B on the internet in North Yorkshire. We spent three nights there on the special three for two deal for November. Excellent value.

The accommodation is lovely. We had one of the two rooms with a super kingsize bed. Four of the other rooms are advertised as doubles but they actually have kingsize beds. Our room had beams, flat screen tv, top quality bedlinen and towels. A fridge, hairdryer and safe plus tea and coffee making facilities.
The Wensleydale breakfast made by Jackie set us up for the day. She made us feel so welcome throughout our stay.

For an evening meal a short stroll over the road brings you to the Stavely Arms a pub with a restaurant that also serves meals in the bar. There is a log fire to complete the atmosphere.

The Old Coach House is near to Ripon with all its facilities and we visited many of the North Yorkshire villages plus York. We even ventured up to Beamish.

We hope to return soon.

  • Liked — The room and its facilities were excellent
  • Disliked — An extra shelf in the bathroom for personal toiletries would be appreciated

The website for this B&B very accurately represents what you will get when you stay here (many don't). OK, the prices are more like a hotel, but at least you know you get excellent quality here. We had a ground floor room, spacious, excellent bathroom, very comfortable bed and linens, high spec throughout (including flatscreen TV with all the channels, fridge and safe).

The breakfast was lovely and the owner is very pleasant and friendly. There is loads to do in the area and there is a pub right across the road which serves food. Also it only takes 5 minutes to drive to Ripon.

Plenty of safe parking and if you are a wheelchair user, this B&B would be suitable as ground floor rooms are easily accesible as is the breakfast room.

Highly recomended, there were plenty of people staying when we were there in mid-late OCtober.

  • Liked — The quality of the room/bathroon
  • Disliked — The underfloor heating was a bit fierce for us, we would have liked it a bit cooler

after a hiccup with a booking at another hotel, we asked Harrogate Tourist Info to find somewhere near Ripley Castle where we were going to a wedding, for 3 couples and 2 singles and they really came up trumps with the Old Coach House at North Stainley. The place had only opened 7 weeks ago and it was immaculate - very high spec fixtures, fittings and linens and some nice touches like a small fridge in the wardrobe for fresh milk etc. Lovely Yorkshire breakfast with all the works in the charming dining hall, well cooked and delightfully served by the two ladies who looked after us.

Thanks to you all. We will be back - and thanks also to Clare at Harrogate Tourist Information who was brilliant!
