we came here a large group, for a wedding,
-grounds are lovely (your better off outside away from the bitterness of the landlady) there is so much space to run around let the kids run off some steam.
-the outside is gorgeous, against a clear blue sky we were lucky to have that day, it looked beautiful stone drive with white wood building, and a gorgeous garden (that is where the beauty ended)
-as we arrived the land lady was waiting on the path by the front door for the bride and groom, as my son ran past the land lady a few stones came off the drive onto the path, she then pulled a very funny face said something to my son which i still do not know what (as hes only 5 getting a straight answer is not easy) and kicked the stones that had gone onto the path, back on the drive, that was a good start!!!! (we had been there no more than 2 minutes)
-we were greeted by what i think was the landlady's mum with bucks fizz, she was lovely, very polite, could hold a conversation with her, a real lovely lady.
-the bride and groom wanted photos on the lawns after we all had our first drink from the bar, so we proceeded to the garden, after a while we found it quite clear that dinner was ready. After being told 4 times and getting stroppy that the chef will be waiting.
-we where told where to go and sit before the bride and grooms entrance to dinner, we all sat down, i put two children into the high chairs and sorted their gifts out on the table before i sat down and thought going to loo before we ate would be a good idea (how wrong was I)
i got to the door to leave and shouted at to 'SIT BACK DOWN' i told the lady i was popping to the loo quickly, i was then told 'NO, you're not the bride and groom are coming and you can wait, go and sit down, you can do that after they arrive'. she then held both her arms out and walked towards me, to push me back into the room (without touching me)
Wow this shocked me, to be told like i was at school, i could not go to the toilet.
--landlady's child was with us from after dinner until around 9.30pm, with no one checking on him, probably 4 maybe 5 years old playing with my son, which was no problem with us and it kept my son entertained, until...... at the disco in the evening he decided to poke my son in the eye on purpose because he wasn't listening to him telling him to run away from me. so i sat my son down until im a assuming a brother came and took him out the back to the kitchens
If your running a function i dont think this is good practice, a free childminding service!!
toilets and decor is very run down, but this is not a real issue when enjoying a great day with the family,
what i do however mind is the landlady's attitude towards her guests
it is such a shame really with how beautiful the Fairlight lodge hotel is, this place is not up to its full potential
and i can confidently say i will not be returning out of choice because of her attitude,
maybe i needed to raise my hand before going to loo,
my family and I didnt stay the night and from what i have heard, probably best that we didnt, no heating in the rooms, even though it was a night that got down to 3 degrees with thick frost in the morning and no double glazing.
