As I sit here writing this review after a soothing nap helped by the sound of gently breaking waves and tropical birds I feel as though we're the only couple here. It's like having your own private tropical island with all the benefits you'd expect the super rich to have.
My wife took a wonderful few hours to hike through the wildlife rich jungle only to find our own private beach with nobody else around.
Although it's relatively close to the mainland you feel very removed from the outside world. The food is delicious and the staff could not be more attentive and friendly. It's the best lodge of this kind that I've found in Central and South America and it's on par with the best of this kind that I've experienced in Asia and Africa.
If you're looking for a luxury private tropical getaway that isn't cheesy with plenty to do go here!

It is one thing to visit a 5 star resort and be pampered with luxury, attention and high quality, but to do it and feel like you are the only one there! Now that is Special! Isla Palenque gives one that feeling even when they are fully booked. It is such a small, quaint and personal getaway, but with the luxury and service of any of the biggest and best in the world.

Room Tip: The Ocean Suite complete with a bathroom as big as the bedroom, and my personal favorite, an outdoor...

My wife & I travel extensively & always look for a location that offers luxury accommodations as well as a getaway from our daily hustle & bustle. The Resort at Isla Palenque doesn’t disappoint. Upon arrival we immediately felt like this was a special place. The resort staff including the guides went above & beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. Brayno & the rest of the resort staff were extremely professional, & were always there to ensure our needs were tended to. The property itself offers just the right escape from the 'daily grind' & allows the perfect escape. If you choose to connect with the outside world you can (wireless internet & iPad in each room), but why bother when staying in such a magical place. On our last day at the resort, we had a whole beach to ourselves. The tours we took were all great & we highly recommend the whale watching/island hopping tour, you won’t be disappointed. My review wouldn’t be complete without saying something about the dining experience, to include the restaurant staff & especially the chef. The resort is special, & the dining is nothing short of phenomenal. Each meal seemed as if it was prepared just for us (maybe because it was). The restaurant staff also gets our accolades for their personal touches & fantastic 'drink specials'.

A couple of tips if traveling to Ilsa Palenque; bring insect repellant (the resort also has a very good natural repellant if needed) & definitely bring sunscreen.

In conclusion if you’re looking for a special place to get away & be completely spoiled look no further than Isla Palenque. It’s well worth the trip & we'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: We had a 'Jungle View' room, but it had a direct view of the ocean & beach. We cant spea...

My husband and I just returned from an unbelievable vacation at the Resort at Isla Palenque. The experience started well before we even set foot on the island – all of our questions and requests were answered promptly and politely. They even provided a complimentary room upgrade in celebration of our 2nd wedding anniversary!

Once we arrived, we were able to jump right into activities since we were only there for a quick trip. Between the island trekking, tree climbing, kayaking, hiking, swimming and whale watching, we feel like we explored the entire island! Our guide Rudolfo was amazing – so incredibly friendly, informative and helpful on each of our tours. We felt like he really got to know us and vice versa over the course of the 4 days. During the nights, we enjoyed elaborately prepared (delicious) meals and drinks, courtesy of the amazing cooks and bartenders/waitstaff (Benny and Eduardo!).

As magical as the island, décor and food was, the best part of our vacation had to be the staff. Every single person we encountered was so friendly and engaging, helping to make us feel completely welcome. They went out of their way, over and over again, to make sure everything was taken care and that we had a great time. And this excellent service continued even after we came home – Brayno, the Guest Services Manager, emailed us pictures that Rudolfo had taken during our time there.

All in all, this was one of the best vacations we've ever taken and we can’t wait to go back!

Isla Palenque rates as one of my favorite destinations ever. Jungle beach luxury. At least for now, there are only 6 units, so you have an island with I think 7 different beaches all to yourself. Service was among the best I've ever had. Going with my family with two young children, i especially appreciated the excellent service. My daughter was talking about "Mr. Benny" well after we left the island. Excursions had decent variety and they would adjust them to what the guests wanted. Great and frendly guides. The island itself is beautiful and just the right level of adventurousness. Monkeys every day. Food varied from good to excellent. One comment -- food preparation time is still closer to Panama standards, so expect leisurely meals. Also, don't be put off by the "everything is included but the drinks." Tap water is free and it is actually safe to drink and tastes like water should taste. You end up paying for juices and alcohol, so it's no big deal.

They plan on adding additional units and quite a few vacation homes over the next several years. They're confident that it will be low density and retain the same private island feel. I've no reason to doubt them since they've done such a great job so far. Still, I'd get there as soon as you can, because it's certainly nearly paradise right now.

Isla Palenque is a special place that combines a fantastic location and spectacular scenery with wonderfully crafted rooms and tremendous service. I think that Ben and his team have created something truly unique, not only in creating a wonderful little hotel in the midst of spectacular beaches and deep jungle but in enthusing a staff with a warmth and hospitality that makes the visit so much more special. Highly recommend the guided walks and kayaks if for no other reason than to get to know the guides and the island and then just explore on your own. Definitely get on a boat and Isla Secas, while a haul, should be part of the itinerary. Not every activity was individually spectacular (ie tree climbing was pretty short in height and duration) but all of them offered the chance to hang out with a staff that seems to genuinely to love the island. It is not for everyone and try to come at a time when they are offering discounts but man they are doing it right.

The beauty of Isla Palenque is only surpassed by the excellence in service. The team has thought and acted in each detail; from the moment you arrive, to the planning of your days’ activities, to all meals, to the serene and quite atmosphere in the resort.. all are A+
My family and I had a memorable time full of great memories, and we all agreed that is a place to go back.
Ben (resort president) and all the Isla Palenque team are fantastic.

Room Tip: stay for a min of 4 nights..anything less, and you will miss out..
